Oh, Look, It’s Mitch Claiming Liberals Are Beat

Haha, you’ll tinkle a little when you see the latest email from Mitch McConnell’s Rand/Ron Paul campaign manager:

Subject: We Beat the Liberals

Dear Patriot,

Barack Obama and his allies are furious.

A group of the Senate’s most liberal Senators, fueled by left-wing groups like Move On, have been pushing a dangerous scheme to change the rules of the United States Senate and fundamentally alter the checks and balances of our system.

You see, they had been pushing a plan to end the filibuster, allowing Harry Reid and the Obama Democrats to pass their agenda with a simple majority.

Well, Mitch McConnell stood strong and stopped that scheme dead in its tracks.

I am just a grassroots campaigner, so I am no expert on the finer points of Senate parliamentary procedure, but I can tell you this: bottom line, Mitch McConnell saved the ability of Republicans to filibuster any bill at 60 votes. Period.

And let me tell you, Liberal bloggers, activists and news sites are gnashing their teeth. Here is just a sample:

Cackling yet? Ripe fearmongering in a push to raise campaign cash.

Read the rest after the jump…

Mother Jones: “Real Filibuster Reform Appears to Be Dead in the Senate … it is a stinging defeat for progressive senators Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) and Tom Udall (D-N.M.), who fought hardest for the talking filibuster. … also a blow to the Democracy Initiative, a coalition of labor unions, enviros, voting rights groups, and other progressive outfits that had embraced filibuster reform as its new cause célèbre.” (“Real Filibuster Reform Appears To Be Dead In The Senate,” Mother Jones, 1/24/13)

“One of the great liberal hopes of 2013 was that Harry Reid would pull the trigger on filibuster reform and return to the Jimmy Stewart talkathons of Hollywood legend. Well, it’s not going to happen.” (“Filibuster Reform Stumbles To The Finish Line,” Mother Jones, 1/24/13)

Fix The Senate Now: “we know enough to sum up the agreement as follows: a missed opportunity to provide meaningful filibuster reform…”(“Another Missed Opportunity to Deliver Meaningful Change to U.S. Senate,” Fix The Senate Now, 1/24/13)

Huffington Post: “Progressive senators working to dramatically alter Senate rules were defeated on Thursday…” (“Harry Reid, Mitch McConnell Reach Filibuster Reform Deal,” The Huffington Post, 1/24/13)

Ed Schultz: “I’m recovering right now. I can’t believe what Harry Reid did today. He just handed Mitch McConnell all the ammunition he needs to destroy the Obama agenda.” (The Ed Show on Facebook, 1/24/13)

Senator McConnell is a serious man who gets things done. And he is willing to work with his colleagues across the aisle when it is in the best interest of Kentucky and our country.

But Leader McConnell knows that we have to fight for our conservative values and he was not about to sit by and allow Harry Reid advance the most dangerous, liberal agenda of our time.

Can you imagine what the left might cook up with that kind of un-checked power? We’d be sure to see a litany of new anti-coal regulations, tax hikes, anti-second amendment bills, forced unionization bills, and crazy new deficit spending. And that would just be tip of the ice berg.

We all owe Leader McConnell a debt of gratitude today. We won the first battle. But there will be many more to come.

As I get to know Sen. McConnell, I become more and more touched by his deep humility. He is not like the typical politician, always demanding credit and a pat on the back. He never beats his own chest, and today will be no exception.

But I hope you will help me give him a little pat on the back right now. Will you consider chipping in with a small contribution, even as small as $5 or $10, to show you appreciate what he did for us and let him know you will continue to stand with him as he leads the fight against the liberal agenda?

Thank you as always for your consideration.

In Liberty,

Jesse Benton

  1. The Tea Party should reach out and bloody Jesse Benton’s nose for selling his soul to Mitch McConnell.
I’ve spoken to Tea Party groups and attended a couple of meetings and I don’t think they will fall for this charade from Jesse Benton.
