An Update On The Hezekiah Boone-Jack Conway Head-Scratcher From October

In October, just prior to Kentucky’s general election, bizarre allegations against Jack Conway and his family surfaced from his former brother-in-law who was sitting in jail.

The Too Long; Didn’t Read: Hezekiah Boone was the former attorney general’s brother-in-law and his (Boone’s) family alleged Conway helped get him arrested on trumped up charges in an attempt to keep him quiet about something nefarious.

Here’s a flashback if you need a refresher:

No one could make definitive heads or tails of it all. An organization called the National Association Against Police Brutality popped up out of the blue to work on Boone’s behalf. Republicans started going crazy with the bizarre story in attempt to damage Conway politically. It was a mess that most chalked up to late election season hype. A freelance reporter in Louisville was, according to NAAPB, scared off the story. Everyone was puzzled. It was bizarre.

Did I mention it was bizarre? It was bizarre.

The story got messy when no one in the mainstream media stepped up to try to figure it out. The Boone Family and NAAPB started releasing documents they claimed were evidence something fishy was going on.

Like this email from a divorce attorney to Boone — advising him not to go after the Conways with what can only be considered extreme allegations:

REDACTED BY US

Nothing in the message ever panned out. No one could provide anything to back their claims up. And honestly, emails like the one above seemed like a waste of time. On one hand, an attorney could have been telling Boone not to attempt to blackmail (?) or retaliate against the Conways with specious claims. On the other, as the Boones were apparently trying to suggest, an attorney was resigning from a case because he was afraid of the attorney general. Just… what? Really. What?

It was all more than enough to make anyone in media take a step back.

Everything seemed to die down.

Jack Conway lost his gubernatorial bid against Matt Bevin.

Most people seemed to forget about Hezekiah Boone.

Then this popped up last week:

Last week we posted an announcement that the Commonweatlth of Kentucky was dropping the charges in the stalking case against Hezekiah Boone of Kentucky. At the request of his family we pulled the announcement down, because his counsel advised that the intention of the prosecutors was not memorialized in writing yet. This week, we are happy to report that the charges have been dismissed WITH PREJUDICE! Legal scholars on deck can explain what the significance is of WITH PREJUDICE to our audience.

I WANT TO TAKE A MOMENT TO SAY THANKS TO THE NAAPB MEMBERS IN LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY and Kathleen Parks WHO SHOWED COURAGE AND RALLIED BEHIND THIS MOTHER SEEKING JUSTICE FOR HER MALICIOUSLY PROSECUTED SON. I also want to thank Bud Dorsey for photographing the event. A special thanks to our NAAPB Kentucky Coordinator, Tila Zamora. She retrieved the 911 tapes that led to unraveling of many of the allegations!!! HEZEKIAH WILL BE HOME FOR CHRISTMAS AND WE ARE THANKFUL YOU ALL STEPPED UP! THIS WAS A TOTAL TEAM EFFORT AND EXEMPLIFIES WHAT IT WILL TAKE TO CHANGE OUR JUSTICE SYSTEM!!!

To give our followers an idea of what happened: NAAPB was contacted by a family member of Hezekiah Boone in mid October. Hezekiah was in jail on a $55,000 cash bond since May. We reviewed the situation and conducted an investigation. NAAPB offered assistance in order to bring awareness to his plight. We sent out a press release and contacted local leaders to see if there was any way to solve this situation. Many elected leaders in the area did not have the courage or desire to stand with this mother, because part of the opposition was the sitting Attorney General of Kentucky, Jack Conway. He was also the Democratic candidate for Governor. One elected leader told me “I aint gonna get involved in that!” That’s when I perked up!

His mother, Chanda Boone, and others organized a rally to bring awareness. On November 1st, I flew down to Kentucky to stand with this mother. News media was there, but chose not to air the story, because a hotly contested Governor’s race was scheduled for the following Tuesday involving Jack Conway. Jack Conway is the ALLEGED victim’s brother that brought charges against Hezekiah Boone. There was an ongoing media blackout of this story in Louisville. Fortunately on the morning before I flew back, one Christian Minister, Pastor Jerry Stephens, allowed Kathleen Parks of NAN, along with Chanda Boone and myself, to come on his radio show to discuss the situation. Prior to that interview the black community was unaware that Hezekiah was the African American brother-in-law of Jack Conway, and that these charges were made during a nasty divorce. On Sunday when I got there, Jack Conway was the favorite to win the Governor’s race by three points. If you keep up with political news….you know who’s not going into the Governor’s mansion this January in Kentucky. David took one smooth small stone and slew Goliath. There are millions of smooth small stones waiting to be picked up by the righteous!

And Boone’s mother posted messages like this on social media:

So… what on earth?!

The charges really were trumped up? Conway really did use his position to go after Boone? Or the state just dropped its case out of the kindness of its heart? Whaaaat?
