A Look At Records Requests Josh Powell Denied

Since we’re nearing the end of the year, there’s no better time to publish a handful of emails from Joshua Powell’s inner circle at Montgomery County Schools. Powell has long denied various open records requests for spurious reasons but other government agencies have come through.

Let’s focus on communication between Powell and Kristi Carter, the iPad lady.

They’ve long claimed they weren’t constantly involved on Topix. But… they’ve been involved since at least 2012 on an every increasing frequency:

He cheated the system. This will not be tolorated in Montgomery County. The administration needs to
be fired. I always wondered why Phil Rison couldn’t get a superintendent job. I was told he is known as a
shady person as well. He needs to go! I can’t believe I wanted this joker as Superentendent at one time.
Well you learn when you really get to know people. I’m glad people are standing up for what’s right.
Anyone who says they will win the State Tournament is smoking dope. They will get all they want next
Friday night when Madison Centfal comes to town. They shut down Omar every time they play. He is not
the best player in the state either.

Carter would forward those issues Powell was concerned about and he would either respond as Deray (a screenname the Powell inner circle uses, often posting from Florida) or have the discussions flagged as threatening or spam.

They are obsessed with Topix.

Everything is orchestrated. Everything. Including public events that the school district has nothing to do with. Of course, there are also bogus awards that Powell pays for.

They even plotted a crazy parade route:

Right before election day, featuring Powell’s preferred candidates, no less.

And came up with a chant for kids to scream as they marched:

Yeah.

Remember Afton Spencer? The former newspaper reporter who went crazy on us on behalf of Powell?

Emails appear to show just how tightly involved she was with Powell and Carter on the spin front.

Dr. Powell,

Just a reminder that I’m on vacation this week. Donna is going to cover the Bd. meeting and Afton will
be there from the advocate. Afton is prepared to place “big news” on front page of this weeks paper and
Cindy did a one call to remind all staff of meeting. All info will be placed on website and sent to Brad
Hughes. Mr. Hughes has agreed to be my mentor as well. He plans to meet with me in the next two
weeks.

The Community Ed contract for the 12-13 year is due and is included in the board agenda. I will ask
Cindy to mail once you have signed off on it. The grant provides $20,000.00 which is primarily used to
help out with salaries. Any additional funding will be budgeted for community activities. I’ll forward it
to you this week to review prior to submitting.

I’m working on a nice, formal invitation to send out to the leadership team on the retreat. What time do
we plan to start/end each day? Would you like for everyone to ride on a bus together or may they drive
separately? I think the dress should be very casual but appropriate as well. ( no daisy dukes!) Thoughts?

Thanks,
Kristi

FASCINATING STUFF

There you go.

Mr. Powell,

Please review and let me know what you think. OneBetter is ready to run the commercial as soon as
they get the go ahead. Phil, Jacqui, Donna and Melody have reviewed and are good with it.

Thanks,
Kristi

Regular folks can only receive a tiny bit of care.

Extreme incidents involving staff shortages and child outbursts aren’t new — they’ve been going on for years!

Powell’s been scheming and working to oust people outside of the law/in ethically gray areas for quite some time:

No, I was actually surprised at how easy you were on them. I think this is a great opportunity for
preschool and kindergarten teachers to work together. Preschool teachers do not have students on
Friday and could work with Mapleton kindergarten teachers on implementing some of the strategies in
their classrooms like centers, individual modifications, etc. I’m going to call Ms. Rush and see what she
thinks about the idea. We only have around 80 days until the end of the school year!

I don’t think you invited LG. She was scheduled to be in the PLC meeting and just happened to be there.

I’m sure Ms. Hall appreciated your phone call last night. Obviously, the others are not too concerned.
Itís a snow day and not one of them are here working today. Maybe, I’m just to dedicated. The
custodians complain because I make them do their jobs and I hold them accountable, but that’s how I
operate.

Thanks,
Kristi

Yes, I was aware that Anthony resigned but did not inform anyone so no person could talk him out of it.
Unfortunately, he is meeting with me tomorrow and I am very hopeful that he does not attempt to
rescind. Additionally, the other custodian complained to Alice (about you) and I directed Alice to let the
custodian know that the superintendent would approve any and all terminations from Kristi Carter,
without reservation.

The other teachers really don’t care about improving and could care less about kids. Although I am not
thrilled with the instruction in Hall’s class, she is at least capable and caring. I called her at home and
“smoothed” things over. I told her that she needed to improve but that I was primarily talking to
everyone else, mostly. She appreciated the call. In reality, I could make her a superstar but she is not
there currently.

The other teachers are ridiculous and why in the hell did I invite LG?

We have to do something to help those children.

Do you think I was too rough on them today? Be honest.

I think Ms. Hall and Ms. Platt truly love kids and are doing a lot of things right. Ms. Hall is very sensitive
and has always been the go to person at Mapleton. She is highly requested by parents and very
competitive with other teachers. Ms. Hall & Platt are the ones lying awake right now thinking about
what they can do to improve student achievement. Has Mr. Ramey completed mid yr evals on k staff?

the individual needs of each student. I would be happy to arrange this!

the whole situation. The reading lab that she was responsible for was dismantled over Christmas break
and her job duties changed without any notice. This is the second week of school and she still hasn’t
been given a new job responsibility. She is not the only one in this position. She knows of 4-5 staff
members that are just hiding out in the school because they have no idea what they are supposed to be
doing. She said the current leadership was shady.

Wednesday?

Surprised?

Don’t worry, that doesn’t appear to be Jennifer Hall, the woman Carter and Powell fired for blowing the whistle on the iPad and other situations.

There’s way more where all that came from.
