How you know an independent auditor isn’t exactly doing its job: when it can’t even come up with the problems Adam Edelen’s investigators uncovered… even after those problems have been publicly brought to life.
Here’s an excerpt from the Mt. Sterling Advocate story – the headline:
Independent auditor commends school district
The Montgomery County School District’s independent auditor commended the district for its handling of finances during the school board’s most recent meeting Dec. 17.
His report came the same day the state auditor’s office issued a letter questioning the district’s handling of the hiring of Superintendent Josh Powell’s wife, Anna, as director of special projects.
White found no corrective action that needed to be taken in regard to the district’s finances and commended the district for its “visionary, not reactionary” view toward the future.
White said that’s in part because the district dedicates the bulk of its spending on personnel.
Though, we seem to recall comments recently made by White – the “independent” auditor – that he (paraphrased) can only do so much with the information he’s given.
