Holy Crap – Gatewood Galbraith Died

January 4th, 2012 · 4 Comments

Not just a rumor – Gatewood Galbraith passed away. In his sleep last night.

Wow.

He suffered with emphysema for quite a while but his family hasn’t yet confirmed the cause of his death.

UPDATE: The State-Journal has a great gallery to help you remember Gatewood.

    Incredibly sad news.

Very sad he will be missed. He brought so much color, and excitement, and substance to a number of races, and a dose of populism that we really needed.

The more I listened to him, the more I really DID believe that he was the last free man in America. Brilliant man. His presence and philosophy will be sorely missed.

Gatewood Galbraith was a great friend of mine and of Kentucky. In fact he asked me to run as his Lt Gov during his campaign of 2007 and as we talked several weeks about this, I got to know Gatewood as a man of great faith and who was a champion of fighting corruption in our state politics. I witnessed great admiration for Gatewood from Judges, politicians and political pundits for his intellect, wit and compassion. We might not have agreed on everything politically, but I can tell you he put Kentuckians first and we lost a great voice for the people with Gatewood’s passing. I miss him and hope we all can carry on his spirit of fighting corruption.
