Now Brent Yonts Is Responsible For Misinformation

Woops? We love it when elected officials give us juicy emails.

Woops? We love it when elected officials give us juicy emails.

Oregon’s Lincoln County District Attorney Rob Bovett – also with the Oregon Narcotics Enforcement Association – is disputing Brent Yonts’ claim that other states aren’t using a point-of-sale blocking system to control meth.

Here’s what Yonts had to say in a WFPL interview:

But Yonts said not to compare the two states’ systems because Oklahoma’s includes data after the initial point of sale. Kentucky’s block purchases at the point of sale.

In an email to Yonts and other legislators in Kentucky (and other states), Bovett had this to say:

I have confirmed with the spokesperson for the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics that their system is also a real-time point of sale system. See e-mail exchange below. I thought I should let you know.

Here are a couple recent stories from Oklahoma that I believe you might find of some interest (which discuss the Oklahoma e-tracking system):

Pharmacy sting yields 305 arrests, 10 seized meth labs

Safeguarding pseudoephedrine from shady buyers a difficult task for pharmacies

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving!

In another email, Mark Woodward, spokesman for Oklahoma’s Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs, put the nail in the coffin:

Yes, ours is real-time point of sale too. Funny how they got that wrong when we’ve stressed that point since 2006.

Mark

But it gets worse for Yonts. Here’s what Bovett sent to tons of others after communicating with Yonts:

I blind copied each of you in on my e-mail to Representative Yonts not because I am delusional enough to believe he will change his tune, but just to let you all know that he has been informed about the facts.

Ouch?

Yonts’ effort is noble but it would help if he could get a grasp on facts before pushing legislative action. Especially while he’s complaining about misinformation himself.
