Here’s your chance to win tickets to the Kentucky Bluegrass Festival, operated by Bisig Impact Group (yep, they’re an advertiser).

The festival takes place at the Water Tower in Louisville Saturday, September 3 through Monday, September 5. 5:00 P.M. to 11:00 P.M. on the weekend, 1:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday. Tons of food, drinks, arts, crafts. It’s $7 before 6:00 P.M., $10 after. Kids under 10 get in for free. So if you don’t win? Be sure to go anyway.
Since this is a bigger deal (to us) than the Blues & BBQ Festival? We’re giving away 25 sets of two tickets. Free. All for you. You won’t be disappointed.
Here’s the deal: You must leave a comment on this post using a functioning email address where you may be reached or email Jake directly (using the email address listed at that link). Tell us why you love Bluegrass, who your favorite artist (living or long gone) is and what current Bluegrass-y music you listen to currently.
Contest runs through next Friday, August 26. We’ll draw winners that evening.

Yonder Mountain String Band. Sadly, I never heard Bluegrass until I went to college in Ohio, but since coming home I’ve listened to a lot more. I love the rhythm, the joy, and the love that those who make it possess.

How can you call yourself a Kentuckian and not love bluegrass music? Big fan of the old stuff – Bill Monroe, the Dillards, Del McCoury. Of the newer folks Rhonda Vincent and Caddilac Sky are both good, as are all the folks who play at the Lexington Bowling Alley in the summer!

I like bluegrass music because of the festivals, the jam sessions surrounding them, the good people picking and attending, and especially the banjo. My favorite artists are probably Flatt and Scruggs or the Osborne Brothers, but lately I have been listening to more contemporary stuff like Blue Highway and Lonesome River Band.

Love any type of acoustic music, especially if it comes out of Kentucky. Really like the music of John Gage and the Kentucky Homefront usually held monthly at the Clifton Center (See http://www.KentuckyHomefront.org).
There is a monthly bluegrass jam that I participate in held at Bashford Manor Baptist Church on the fourth Saturday of each month and a weekly jam through the Louisville Dulcimer Society (See http://www.LouisvilleDulcimer.org).

Love Bluegrass and would love to attend the festival. Everything from Del McCoury, Bill Monroe, Yonder Mountain String String Band, to the “O, Brother, Where Art Thou?” soundtrack and The Civil Wars and Old Crow Medicine Show.

I love bluegrass because I grew up listening to my father play in a small group. Great childhood memories. My favorite is John Hartford and have been listening to Punch Brothers and Old & In the Way recently.

We took our 3 and 5 year old kids last year. They danced for hours. Now they are asking to go back to the “Blue Green Vegetable” (Bluegrass Festival) and dance some more…

I LOVE bluegrass music because it makes my husband happy! Allison Krauss is my favorite!

Raised on Brother Bill Monroe, schooled with and by Sam Bush and wanted to marry Lester Flatt AND Earl Scruggs. But these days it’s Ms Krauss and her various mash-ups I listen to most.

I love bluegrass because it is the music of my genes. My favorite is a toss up between the classic Bill Monroe or Doc Watson. I’ve been digging Lonesome River Band, who I saw first at the festival last year.

I used to play upright bass in a bluegrass group called “Friends of the family”. We had a lot of fun and really loved playing for all the bluegrass fans. I have so many favorite groups it’s hard to choose, but i will have to pick The Osborn brothers.

I don’t know if The Low Anthem counts as bluegrass. But they’re bluegrassy. And you know how I love my outdoor music festivals. :)

I love Bluegrass because I was born loving it! It has been a huge part of my family and upbringing. I love it because it celebrates what is simple and good in the world. It reminds us to recognize all of the small wonders and laughter that exsists in life! I like JD Crowe and the New South, Grasscals, Bela Fleck, Allison Krauss and Union Station, and a local fav-Blind Corn Liquor Pickers!! This is my first opportunity to attend this festival and I am so excited!

I met the father of bluegrass music, Mr. Bill Monroe in the early 70′s on the belevedre in Louisville at the old Bluegrass Music Festival of the United States on our shared birthday. A friend was working security and when he found out it was my birthday, he told me to wait a second. A few minutes later, I see him coming back with a white cowboy hat close behind attached to the head of Bill Monroe. What a great present. Also the old Storefront Congregation and Mason Jar as well as 118 West Washington any weekend of the 70′s were the scene of some awesome jams with “new” talent like Bela Fleck, Peter Rowan, Sam Bush, and others introducing newgrass music. I also follow Ralph Stanley, Doc Watson, Flatt and Scruggs, the Country Gentlemen and Jim and Jesse from the older guys. I also like Ricky Skaggs, Bela Fleck, Sam Bush, the old Hot Rize, Allison Krauss, Rhonda Vincent, and Del McCroury from the younger generation. Locally, Hog Operation, the Cumberlands, J.D. Crowe, and of course the Cumberlands rank up there.

Bluegrass music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. From sitting in my Mamaw’s kitchen as kid in East Ky with it playing on the radio to current days of going to Bluegrass Fests around the state…Its been a staple and something that connects me with my roots in the mountains.
My favorite Bluegrass pickers are Bill Monroe, Merle Watson, Don Rigsby, Lonesome River Band, Mountain Heart, Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers, Yonder Mountain String Band…I could go on and on
I’ve never been to the Bluegrass Fest here in town due to other events on Labor Day weekend out of town..I have no plans for Labor Day this weekend and would love to check it out!…

My husband and I just love bluegrass music. Especially with good fiddle music. We live in southern Indiana that has produced many great fiddlers. There is even great local bluegrass music on the weekends in Henryville that operates for fundraising purposes. We follow the local musicians as much as possible. Our all time favorite is Alison Krause with Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas. Her recent concert at the Palace Theatre was unbelievable. We have all her CDs but in person is the best. The personality just adds to the mood of the music. The Louisville Bluegrass and Burgoo festival is a real jewel to the region. We are excited to go again this year. Having an opportunity to go on free tickets is an added bonus.
