This may be a bit of a stretch but a few stories involving Conway-Beshear-Guilfoyle have us questioning everything lately.

A guy working in Mark Guilfoyle’s firm gets hired to be Jack Conway’s new guy. And then Guilfoyle’s name pops up amid the Conway-Beshear-KRS scandal:

• Laaaawd, The Lingering Questions Regarding KRS [May 26, 2011]

These Guilfoyle ties were popping up all over the place. The connections were raising flags all over Frankfort. When the University of Louisville Hospital-Catholic Health Initiatives merger mess floated to the surface, the gossip got louder.

It’s silly. And we’re sure it’s nothing. But it can’t hurt to raise a question or two, can it?

Here’s why there’s a tiny bit more of doubt:

• Guilfoyle does a lot of lobbying for the Catholic church
• He’s the chairman of the board for Northern Kentucky’s Catholic Charities
• He raises and contributes a lot of campaign cash
• Northern Kentucky hospital mergers involving Catholic groups haven’t been questioned

With Guilfoyle’s guy in Jack’s office and, well, all of the above… we thought it was worth mentioning. Just in case. Because it’s been on the minds of many in Frankfort.
