Why are we rehashing things? Because history seems to be repeating itself. Let’s set up the scene: golden boy who believes he deserves whatever he wants and tries to get it while using bogus, populist spin versus a borderline extremist Republican who has no clue what they’re doing.

In a July 20, 2002 column (“Conway Focuses On Northup’s Campaign Money”), Al Cross wrote the following:

Democrat Jack Conway is making an issue of where U.S. Rep. Anne Northup gets some of the campaign money that is keeping her in the fund-raising lead in her bid for re-election. Conway pointed to Northup’s support from the accounting industry and other business interests, and her votes favorable to those interests, in an effort to capitalize on recent corporate misbehavior.

Yep, Jack Conway was criticizing Anne Northup for accepting campaign contributions from special interests.

On October 18, 2002, Cross wrote (“Conway Shifts Campaign Focus From Cash To People”):

Conway has connections to donors through his former work as a top aide to Gov. Paul Patton. But he said some of those potential contributors haven’t been willing to write checks or even take his calls. ‘The lobbyists who used to line up outside my door when I was on the first floor of the Capitol, some of those you can’t find with a search warrant,’ he said with a laugh.

Yep, jumped on corrupt old Anne for taking special interest cash while he was trying to do the same damn thing. They wouldn’t pony up the cash so he criticized them in the press. The rest of the mainstream didn’t bat an eyelash and no one cared for, well, nearly a decade.

Fast forward to May 2011 when questions surfaced over Jack Conway, his associates and the Kentucky Retirement Systems.

Yep, Jack pocketed $100,000 from hedge funds, private equity, venture capital, real estate and investment managers. Even folks implicated in pay-for-play scandals. All folks involved with public pension systems and all of them seeking to do business with the KRS.

Guess the moral of this story is that it’s bad when a hateful Republican woman does it but a-okay when golden boy Jack does it?
