Thoughts On Last Night’s Cheves Bombshell…

May 25th, 2011 · 6 Comments

Okay. So last night’s story brought to you by John Cheves. Let’s discuss that mess a little more.

As I told you a couple days ago, there’s an ongoing federal investigation that’s not going away. And last night raised the reality that Beshear seems to have ousted several KRS folks in order to line the pockets of supporters. That’s all puppies and rainbows or whatever.

But we still cannot get over the fact that Riddle and Guilfoyle were placement agents and Vince Gabbert was making telephone calls to set up meetings for them. Right from the Governor’s office. Flipping amazing.

Riddle’s quote – “It never led to anything. And I was never compensated for anything,” Riddle said. “I made a thousand dollars a month for, like, a year.” – really takes the cake. What he doesn’t say is that had his client been given $100 – $200 million in state retirement funds to play pat-a-cake with, well, uh, he maybe would have banked, what, one or two percent? One or two million dollars.

Questions are flying all over Frankfort this morning about whether this is why Jack Conway ruled in an opinion that legislation passed by the General Assembly placing term limits on Kentucky Retirement Systems board members didn’t apply to current members. Like those who had been on the board for a couple decades – like those recently ousted.

EnTrust, Riddle’s employer, contributed funds to Conway’s campaign and so did a host of Wall Street firms that represent investment organizations. And Guilfoyle was one of Jack’s biggest money getters in Northern Kentucky. So it’s no surprise the Frankfort scene is ablaze this A.M.

There are allegedly more articles to come. This issue isn’t going away. It will provide ample fodder for David Williams and Todd P’Pool.

I expected to see something about Rand Paul filibustering the Patriot Act given it is now buried in a small business bill and people might want to call their senators to put pressure on them to vote against it. Glen Greenwald thinks it is worth writing about and so does the Hill (multiple times) but you don’t?

    Surprising.

WOW – I wonder how Ernie Fletcher would have fared if he had a lapdog Attorney General like Beshear.

Jack Conway a lapdog? Absolutely not. He is the hardest working dog in state government. You just got realize who is he working for- at that corporation called MMIP: Me [Jack], Myself [Jack], I [Jack] and political future [aqua buddha/Riddle redux].

I can’t wait until you uncover the rest of this story. Like how Beshear sent his other lapdog Crit out to stir up poo on organizations so he could get the people in charge fired and replace them with his supporters. At bigger salaries.

My first reaction to this story is that this stuff happens all the time in both parties. Gosh! Politicians trying to help their donors get a piece of the government tit! Say it ain’t so Mitch and Hal!
