Big Phill Moffett Campaign Finance Violation

December 30th, 2010 · 2 Comments

Dear Phil Moffett: it is illegal for federal candidates to use their campaign resources to advocate the election/defeat of a state-level candidate in Kentucky.

So this email blast from Ed Lynch:

Happy New Year Patriots,

There are three Gubernatorial Races in 2011, and the only one where there is a contested race with an Obama, sitting Governor is Kentucky. This race will be NATIONAL! Two Republican’s are currently in the primary. I am coming out early with the KY Grassroots, and supporting the “Tea Party Candidate” Phil Moffett. He is the only Conservative candidate running in this primary race. Phil is running against an established, “Charlie Crist” Republican. RINO is the opponent’s middle name.

I hope that you will do your due diligence and consider supporting Phil Moffett for Governor of Kentucky, as I have, right away. I am attaching to this email a flier I received from Phil’s campaign. They are looking for a few more supporters before their December 31st filing. Please donate whatever you can, even if it is just $5.00 to help ensure that this election be secured by a REAL Republican!

Hoo boy. Insinuating that David Williams is a closet case with a tan-in-a-can addiction (“Charlie Crist”), for one, is insane and doing a campaign finance push for a state campaign with a federal campaign’s resources is ridiculous.

To drive home the reality that the Moffett camp was involved, take a look at this image Lynch included (at a print-quality high resolution that was obtained from the Moffett camp – I cut it down to 1,000 pixels) at the bottom of his message:

Yeah.

Get with it, teabaggers. This isn’t amateur hour.

Happy New Year Patriots,

I pray that you and your families had a blessed Christmas and Happy Chanukah and my hope is that each and every one of you has a prosperous new year. Over the holidays, my wife Jennifer, son Edward, daughter Isabella and I reflected on many of the things each of us were thankful for. Of course, like every family we were thankful for the material things God saw fit to bless us with this past year, but we are most thankful for the roof over our heads, health, and fulfillment from one another. We are forever grateful for and humbled by all of the support we received for the various political endeavors we undertook together in an effort to take our nation back. Our victories speak volumes for the dedication of those of you fighting with us and the loses are merely the stepping stones to the great victories we can look forward to as we remain engaged. Lastly, we are forever grateful for the kindness of our friends, and the new relationships that we have created over 2010. So, from the bottom of our hearts, we thank you!

I know many of you worked hard this past election cycle and are resting, but we must continue working on the BIG 2012 election and we need to start now! This is a call to ACTION…We need to motivate and energize like never before. Phil believes in state sovereignty, challenging the constitutionality of federal laws, mandates, and regulations. Phil is pro business and pro employment. Phil has a plan to replace over 240 different state taxes, fees, and surcharges and put in place a single-rate consumer sales tax on goods and services (similar to here in the State of Florida). Phil believes in smaller, more efficient state government. Most importantly Phil promises to improve the public education system in the State of Kentucky. Phil Moffett is the co-founder of School Choice Scholarships, a charity providing low-income parents the opportunity to send their children to the private school of their choice. Phil believes that all parents should be empowered with public school choice so they can find schools where their children thrive. In other words, Phil is one of us!!!

These campaign finance laws are a drag. Since the Constitution doesn’t address them, then we should just ignore them.
