Familiar with the Lexington Art League? No? Time to get acquainted.
The organization’s got a terrific community engagement program called “Witness,” which connects survivors of domestic violence with visual artists to tell their story. The art from the collaborations is then presented in a group exhibition that travels around.
Here are some photos:

The event runs through November 22 and will be open at the J. Allen Studio + Spa in Lexington during the November 19th Gallery Hop. It’s produced in partnership with the Kentucky Domestic Violence Association, Bluegrass Domestic Violence Program, Bluegrass Rape Crisis Center, Kentucky United Methodist Homes for Children and Youth and Third Street Stuff. The UK Center for Research on Violence Against Women is also a sponsor.
You should probably check it out if you’re in the area.

Actually we are attempting to model a similar project in Louisville but with former felons in long-term recovery and artists.
We also think it is a great idea!
