Terribly sad.

Hope the guy rots.

Incredibly sad. My thoughts go to his parents. I hope they feel the community support, for what little comfort it may provide.

This makes me so sad. I will be hugging my loved ones a little tighter today. God bless his family and give them strength.

Is this another example of a gay kid bullied to death? He was 18. I have to wonder if he would still be alive if he hadn’t felt so bullied by life in general as a gay kid in southern Indiana/Kentucky that he
had to resort to meeting some old murderous creeper online.
If this is offensive, I apologize. I just think far too many young gay and lesbian kids have to make such a choice.

There is no evidence that he was bullied due to his sexual orientation. He was quiet and shy and met the suspect online.

I think you missed bestmid’s point in asking a question: Was the kid bullied at some point in his life? Did he lead a more difficult life as a result of his sexual orientation? And did any of that potentially lead to this risky behavior?

I went to middle and high school with Andrew, and I was in the same graduating class as him. I had at least 5 classes with him throughout the years, and never heard him speak once. He was definitely bullied in middle school (not so much in high school) although more for being tiny and impossibly, heartbreakingly shy than being gay- frankly, I don’t think anyone at school knew he was gay. I certainly didn’t. I remember seeing him sitting and walking alone in about 7th grade and always having an urge to go talk to him- he always looked sad. I never had the confidence. Obviously, now, I wish I had.

Rest in Peace Andrew, and my heart goes out to your family.
