Looooooord, get ready. Everybody is going to lose their shiz over David Williams and Richie Farmer. The mouth breathers who think Farmer is still at the University of Kentucky playing basketball (all the corn syrup and bacon grease they consume makes it impossible to leave the 70s and 80s) and the Democrats who will suddenly pretend to love Steve Beshear. We’d discuss the teabaggers, but they’re all former strippers who hit their head on the pole one too many times or they’re hiding in meemaw’s basement with a Buddha bong.
Long story short, David and Richie will announce their candidacy in about 20 minutes and we will likely never have a moment of non-campaign peace.
In the meantime, I stumbled upon parts of the Williams-Farmer campaign website that they were silly enough not to hide. Let’s take a peek.
From the “Vision” portion of the site, about David:
David Williams is Kentucky’s “man in the arena,” fighting to make our Commonwealth a better place.
David Williams has been a reformer and a tireless fighter for conservative values in Frankfort. In 2011, he will bring his passion for public service to the Governor’s office.
As Senate President, he has worked with other conservatives to stand firm against higher taxes and more debt. In 2010, David helped block more than $1 billion in new debt from being added to the state budget.
Under David’s leadership, Senate Republicans have stopped $1 billion in higher taxes since 2000. Some in Frankfort tried to raise taxes on everything from small businesses to gasoline, but David Williams held them off.
-SNIP-
In politics, David has been a leader and tireless advocate for conservative candidates. He served as the McCain/Palin Presidential Campaign State Chairman in 2008, and even traveled to more than 60 events at the end of October making speeches for McCain/Palin, Senator McConnell, Congressman Brett Guthrie and other Republican candidates. For many years David has volunteered his time campaigning for conservative candidates at every level of government, and he looks forward to ensuring conservatives win races in November 2010.
About Reeeechie:
Richie Farmer knows just how special it is to be a Kentuckian.
As Kentucky’s “Mr. Basketball” at Clay County High School, and as a member of the University of Kentucky’s “Unforgettables,” Richie has known the affection and support of Kentuckians from Paducah to Pikeville.
Richie Farmer entered public service to give back to a state and a people that have been so good to him.
Twice elected Commissioner of Agriculture (’03 and ’07), Farmer was the leading vote getter on the statewide ballot in 2007. Now, he seeks to continue his service to the people of Kentucky as Lt. Governor.
Richie was known as a tenacious fighter on the basketball court, and he brings that same focus and drive to his career in public service. He has fought tirelessly for Kentucky’s farmers and small agribusinesses and has used the office of Commissioner to make state government work for a large and important sector of Kentucky’s economy.
-SNIP-
In a world where many politicians like to hold office for the sake of holding it, Richie Farmer stands out as a true servant of the people. He has worked hard to send a clear message to the world that Kentucky’s agriculture products are the best you’ll find anywhere.
Richie has more to offer the people of Kentucky. He wants to bring the same work ethics and pro-business leadership that has led to a successful tenure as Commissioner of Agriculture to the Lt. Governor’s office, where he will work with David Williams to rescue Kentucky’s economy, make state government more efficient and transparent, and help get Kentucky moving again.
From the “Call for New Leadership” section:
(Frankfort) Kentucky Senate President David Williams and Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer will be Republican candidates for Governor and Lt. Governor in the 2011 election. The slate launched a website and video to announce the ticket: www.WilliamsFarmer.com.
“Kentucky is adrift. We need strong leadership to move this state forward. We cannot afford another four years of inaction on the serious problems facing our Commonwealth,” Williams said.
Commissioner Farmer said he was honored to serve Kentucky.“We are running to change Frankfort and make Kentucky a better place. I am excited about new opportunities to serve the people of Kentucky,” Farmer said.
The campaign will not hold any fundraising events until after November’s election out of deference to Dr. Rand Paul and the entire slate of GOP candidates. Williams and Farmer will focus on helping retain the U.S. Senate seat held by Jim Bunning, preserving and expanding the GOP majority in the State Senate, and on helping Republicans win as many races as possible at all levels.
Former Kentucky State Adjutant General Donald Storm will serve as the campaign chairman.
“Williams and Farmer offer proven leadership for Kentucky, and I look forward to helping them campaign across the state with a bold, positive agenda for Kentucky’s future,” Storm said.
And a video:

Here’s the campaign on Flickr, YouTube, Facebook and Twitter.
P.S. HOUSTON, WE HAVE A MOM JEANS PROBLEM!

Please, someone, fix this problem ASAP.
Final P.S. Thanks to a reader for pointing out the basketball in the campaign’s logo:

Haha.

Is that a basketball in the logo?

HAHA! It is.

Steve Beshear – Be afraid, Be very afraid. I do not like David Williams and his tactics at all. But I must gove them credit. That is one hell of a political video. The best I’ve ever seen.
And Farmers statement about Kentucky’s most important crop, Kentucky’s children, was a 3 pointer from downtown .
Now for the bashing – Is David Williams following the same election path as Steve Beshear. In other words, is he going to win based on his Lt Gov candidate and then do as Beshear did, throw his Lt Gov in the trash?
Beshear NEVER would have won without Mongiardo, Williams would never win without Richie.
Beshear, you better be scared. Williams/Farmer ticket is going to let their Republican US and state candidates raise money and forego their fundraising until after the election.
Beshear has stolen over $2.6m in campaign funds from Democratic candidates all over Kentucky. Beshears goal should have been to help Democrats regain control of the Ky Senate. But no, he had to be selfish. Now he has empowered Williams to run

This has been telegraphed for months, and pretty much confirmed for the last two weeks. And we are now 20 minutes past the scheduled press conference time.
Where is the response from the Beshear/Abramson team? Where is the unloading of the oppo book on Williams and Farmer? Maybe they sent it to you already, and it hasnt made it up. But I checked, and nothing on Beshear Abramson website. Nothing on Alessi’s site. Nothing at the Herald leader.
The fact that the Beshear campaign does not appear to have pounced on Williams/Farmer (or hit Jennings for his Bush/Rove connections) is a very bad sign. They could have done it this morning, and they certainly should have done it by now.

Ironically, David Williams somewhat resembles Barney Frank in the that office photo.

Oh also, it is pathetic that the Beshear/Abramson website is still not completed, and is a lot less functional than Williams/Farmer website which went live moments ago.

Two things: It’s Reeechie, not Ritchie. And the Democrats will never admit that Papaw took advantage of Lt. Dan.
ThankYou: They don’t take things seriously on an official level, but folks behind the scenes have been working for days.

that video was absolutely terrible. It said NOTHING about “bold ideas” or even anything remotely close to policy… just a lot of pictures of farms and the sky…

The State has such a great record of electing former local sports legends to higher office. At least Reeeechie isn’t likely to cross over into senility at his age, but I’m sure the embarrassment factor will rival Bunning’s.

Behind the scenes doesn’t matter. This is a race to define the other campaign. Unless there is polling to support not taking this seriously, they are making a mistake.
And glad they have been working on it days, when it has been seen for weeks or months. A tight campaign with 2 mil in the bank should have early research done on most of their possible opponents as early as possible.
There should have been a quote from Beshear, Abramson, or a senior staffer in each one of these stories. Even if the quote is ‘We dont take this challenge’ seriously.
Yes, I get it. Wiliams is hated. Well, why not pile it on, and not allow Williams any opportunity to rehab himself? Yes, the race is a long time away, but I still say it smacks of getting caught flat-footed.

The Beshear campaign may not be taking it seriously, but other Democrats are, as I said.
It’ll be up to folks who aren’t part of the re-election machine to fight Republicans this year and next.
Everyone should know by now that there is nothing really competent coming out of any Democratic organization in Frankfort.
12 ThankYou // Sep 1, 2010 at 11:49 am
Jake, if the Beshear team isn’t on it, and the KDP (50 minutes later and no release) is not on it, then who has the resources and position to do something about it?
You wouldn’t be talking about a potential primary challenger and his team, would you?
13 Boom // Sep 1, 2010 at 11:50 am
Jake, I also think we should reference the Willams/Farmer ticket as it really is.
The Farmer/Williams ticket.
14 jake // Sep 1, 2010 at 11:53 am
Nah, just a few Democrats who care about Kentucky and aren’t keen on sitting on their hands. Few and far between, I know.
But we should be hearing more today/tomorrow. Not soon enough for my taste, or yours, but it’ll come.

Boom: Check their Fakebook pictures. The main profile shot of David & Reeechie has the logo just below them. “Governor” is under Reeechie’s face.

My gal pal, who ain’t from around here and wouldn’t know a basketball from a hand grenade, asked me what the deal was with those caterpillars on the Farmer dude’s face. I told her that in the mountains that’s what is known as a Scots-Irish muffin tickler.

Ha HA HA HA
Their facebook photo sure is confusing. This looks like a mistake we would make. Richie on the left with “Williams and Governor” under it and Williams on the right identified as Farmer and Lt Gov.
Looked for a Beshear Abramson FB page. Couldn’t find it. Got a name to search with?
Went to the Beshear Abramson website to find a FB link. No where to be found. It also has a non-working link to an “info” email link – info[at]stevebeshear.com.
Whats up with the [at]?
19 Polar // Sep 1, 2010 at 3:44 pm
There’s nobody in KY politics I have more dislike and disrespect for that Williams, but the Dems are just inept enough to let him win this. Beshear’d better be taking this seriously, and the state Dems better get their bleep together fast, lest Dr. No Williams and Reechie get teabagged into office. Remember Ernie Fletcher? I’d rather forget……

There are (present tense) aspiring doctors, farmers, and teachers that LAY (past tense) awake ….
Should be LIE awake — good video, but they needed to check the grammar of the text.

Grammar? Are you serious?
Those mistakes are on purpose……

Williams “ironically” looks like Barney Frank? I see no irony at all there.
As for Farmer saying that children are our most important crop, maybe he should ask his running mate why he and his Republican counterparts continually act like Round-Up when it comes to that crop.
These two look like the classic corrupt Southern politicians in a Hollywood comedy. Sad that they stand a chance.
