Get Your Butt To The State Fair This Weekend

August 20th, 2010 · 16 Comments

What’s that sound? I hear this is unofficially being called Non-Merit Layoff Day in Frankfort. Can’t confirm any numbers (200 saving $5 million?), but quite a few non-merit employees were axed today. So many, in fact, that some didn’t even bother showing up for work. Anyone have details? [Frankfort Rumor Mill]

Kentucky Retirement Systems is reopening the middlemen investigation. Imagine that. No wonder Olt was so pissy with me. [Paid-Only Article]

You’re kidding me, right? Rand Paul versus Librul Comedian Marty Cockring? If Rand Paul returns a campaign contribution from someone just because they run a pornography website, then he’s as dumb as I thought he was. Seriously. Who care that they run a porn site? I mean, who DOESN’T run a porn site? Marty is probably shame jacking it to that website right now. Jesus.  Oh, Rand, if porn is only degrading to women…  what about the men?  Gays?  Trannies?  HELLO? Why on earth did Ron Paul need a limo? It’s being turned into the world’s largest limo or something. Wonder if Daddy Ron ever let Rand ride in it? [Gizmodo]

You know what’s interesting about Rand Paul? He continues to lie about Jack Conway. He says Jack supports cap and trade and wants to let the Bush tax cuts expire. Apparently, Rand doesn’t even know what is own campaign talking points are these days. Because they’re the folks hurriedly pointing out that Conway has decided that he: doesn’t support cap and trade and is suddenly (again) in support of extending the Bush tax cuts for up to ten years. Woopsiedaisy, Jim Newberry’s crew has changed its mind and release the law commissioner’s records request. A little thing called the law forced them to wake up, maybe? [H-L]

What’s to know about Iraq now — We are leaving 50,0000 troops there to nation build, for it or against it?

    Nation building… HAHAHAHAHA.

You have inspired me. On Tuesday, I am packing up the kids going to the State Fair.

I haven’t been in 20 years and when I pulled up the schedule, a flood of memories washed over me and then a pride in our state.

My wife is going to make fun of the tear rolling down my cheek, but I don’t care. They have freaking Breeding Sheep Show damn it.

    GOOD!

The State Fair is pretty great. Just be sure to shield your kids’ eyes from the sheep you-know-whats as you walk by.

Buy all kinds of fudge, look at the jacked up cakes and photograph the kids next to some giant pumpkins.

Screw the fair. We have a New Grass festival in Bowling Green. I was just in Nashville today. I must say, it’s becoming the art filled town it had potential of being. Granted, I spent half the day going off my no sugar diet and now I think I am going into a sugar Coma. May not blog for the weekend.

Hopefully you went to that fancy mexican gourmet popsicle joint.

  • 7 bestmid // Aug 20, 2010 at 9:36 pm

    Huh? Gourmet popsicles? Where?

OMG! Women with boobs support Rand Paul!

I can’t believe that was an A Peee story. How lame can you get?

    Hey Jake,
I looked on Rand’s FEC page and found the Zivity donation by Cyan and Scott Bannister. I’m just a bit confused about the X’s by their names. I didn’ t know what “REDESIGNATE: GENERAL 1/28/2010 [MEMO ITEM]” means. Did they contribute $9600 but got $4800 returned? I know you are knowledgeable on the ins and outs of the FEC filings. It’s going to be interesting to see the KY bible thumpers swallow this one. Here’s the link to FEC page http://www.fec.gov/DisclosureSearch/HSProcessContributorList.do

I have to admit this is the most entertaining KY politics have been in a long time. And your page keeps a pulse on all of it. Thnx

Las Paletas. Yeah, I’ve been there. Not today.

Las Paletas whipped Bobby Flay’s ass in a throwdown.

Pat: That means they contributed more than the maximum for the primary and the rest of their funds had to be designated for the general.

    Thanks Jake!

Ben Chandler Alert- Ben was sighted in Lexington today working the crowd with David O’Neil (pva candidate) at the Woodland Arts and Craft Fair. He looked very relaxed and the crowd really seemed receptive to him. Of course the crowd at the fair is always a happy bunch if it is not raining and there is plenty of cold beer. I must say, it is at least good to see Democrats out working together for a change.

Can’t wait to hit the fair. Fun, food, animals, and all of those sexy women sportin’ the “pack of biscuits” look.

I’d love to see an entire list of every non-merit employee in the system. Some I can understand, the immediate staff of the governor, etc. – but way too many are doing fluff jobs. I don’t mean they don’t work hard, but they are doing jobs that aren’t critical to the mission of state government – and we can’t afford fluff.

JTT — I, too, would like to see a complete and unabridged list of the non-merits, especially those outside the Governor’s office.
