Rand Paul’s Got Some Serious Baggage These Days

July 15th, 2010 · 2 Comments

So, that fancy Northern Kentucky GOP unity rally was held a week(ish) ago. Remember that Rand Paul funtimes party? It was allegedly planned for months, but Trey Grayson was only notified about the event after a story about it went public. No one from Rand Paul’s world bothered to make sure he was aware or invited. Republicans from across Kentucky asked why, received multiple excuses from the likes of David Adams and crew, and then Rand had to suck it up and call Trey with an apology for the alleged oversight.

I’ve been wondering why the Northern Kentucky coordinator for Rand Paul’s campaign didn’t, you know, make sure that Northern Kentuckian Trey Grayson was involved in a unity event from the very beginning. Maybe it’s because he was too busy mending fences? Because he was still bitter and upset about nearly being removed from his home Republican Executive Committee for endorsing a Democrat? Those are life’s mysteries and we’ll never know, amen. Right? Riiight?

Haha. Right. Bernard Kunkel. Ayn Rand Liberty Christ’s Northern Kentucky campaign coordinator. Let’s take a trip down memory lane to the Republican Primary. You ready?

Bernie sent out this cute four-page letter – from the Paul Campaign – in an attempt to completely obliterate Trey Grayson. Personal attack after personal attack.

A couple excerpts:

I’ve known Trey Grayson for over 10 years.

-SNIP-

Now, I’m not saying there’s something wrong with a man being a Democrat, or that he’s not a good person. But I am saying that it’s not exactly among the top qualifications for REPUBLICAN nominee for Senate.

-SNIP-

Of course, you might know that Trey Grayson supported Bill Clinton for President.

-SNIP-

As you probably know, Trey went to Harvard. While there, he was in the “Young Democrats” group, and was even quoted in the Harvard newspaper in support of AL GORE!!

-SNIP-

And if Trey had changed all his views, that might have been something.

-SNIP-

What troubles me is that Grayson is associated with the Aspen Institute, a think tank that promotes the Global warming agenda. The Aspen Institute award Van Jones it’s (sic) highest award in 2009.

You remember Van Jones. He was Obama’s green czar who was forced to resign in shame after Fox news (sic) revealed that he was an avowed socialist and 9/11 truther.

-SNIP-

Another award winner of the Aspen Institute is Arlen Specter. You remember him?

Super-cute, isn’t it? And paid for by Rand Paul’s U.S. Senate campaign.

You’ll definitely wanna read the rest of this mess about Rand Paul’s land of hypocrisy after the jump…

What really sticks out in the letter is, well, it’s about accepting contributions from lobbyists and those who supported the bailout:

Career politicians gave us trillion dollar bailouts. They gave us a twelve trillion dollar debt with no end in sight. Career politicians gave us pork barrel spending, and auto industry takeovers. Isn’t it time we try something else?

Trey Grayson recently went to Washington to raise money from lobbyists and establishment insiders. The host of the most recent fundraiser was a lobbyist for AIG! You remember them, they took over $180 billion dollars in taxpayer funded bailouts!

In fact, PACs have given nearly half a million dollars to his campaign.

It troubles me to think why these DC insiders and bailout lobbyists think Trey Grayson is the right man for the job.

I don’t often agree with this paper, but here, they’re dead on:

“Trey Grayson seems physically and mentally dazed, and uncomfortable in his own skin as he responds … his rapid movement … leaves many wondering what he really stands for.” – Louisville Courier-Journal, April 25

Trey is trying to fool us. And I think we can do better.

I’ve also known Rand Paul now for over 15 years. And knowing both men, I will tell you this with conviction: I’ll be voting for Rand Paul on May 18.

Rand Paul is a man who I believe will fight for us in Washington and that’s why I am proud to support him in his race for U.S. Senate.

Rand believes in the Constitution. But just as important, he believes in real solutions to the problems we have as a nation. Solutions like:

Term Limits: The only way to make sure politics isn’t a life-long job is to tell them they have to go home and live with the laws they created!

Balanced Budgets: Rand has personally promised me and everyone in Kentucky that he will NEVER vote for a budget that is not in balance. And he will fight to make it part of our constitution.

END to Wasteful Spending: Some folks don’t like to talk about this. They love to talk about bringing home the bacon. But the fact is, the bacon is killing us. We have to end earmarks and pork barrel projects if we want to get our deficit under control.

A More Secure America: Rand will fight to keep our military strong, our borders protected, terrorists off US soil and our country safe. Rand will keep Gitmo open, fight for military trials for terrorists, and has called for an end to travel visas from countries that support terrorism.

End our Moral Decay: Rand is 100% pro life and will always vote that way. He’s also pledged to protect Kentucky’s right to ban homosexual marriage.

Respect the 10th Amendment: Rand will work to end federal control over education, to eliminate burdensome regulations, and will never vote to give the federal government more power over the states.

Breathtaking, isn’t it? It’s like a roadmap for everything Rand has flip-flopped on.

Attacking Grayson for accepting contributions from lobbyists and those who supported the bailout? Rand’s flip-flopped on that.

Promote Rand’s support of term limits? Rand’s cool with that for other people, just not himself.

Rand supports the Constitution? Everything except the part about not hating non-whites or the disabled. And, well, he doesn’t really support it because he wants to modify it with crap regarding the budget.

End wasteful spending? Yeah, except when it comes to his own government paycheck re: Medicare and Medicaid patients.

Rand will secure America? Never mind that little bit about him being wishy-washy on Gitmo, not supporting the war in Afghanistan, etc.

Moral decay and protecting Kentuckians from homo marriage? What was that again, teabaggers, about Rand not hating the queers?

And that part about killing the Department of Education? Yeah, Rand’s flip-flopped on that, too.

Long story short, that’s from Rand’s Northern Kentucky campaign coordinator. Direct from the campaign. Click here (Warning: PDF Link) to view the original letter for yourself.

Trey is such a good person. He didn’t deserve that…….and his wife and kids certainly didn’t deserve getting dragged through the mud.

BTW, speaking of the use of immoral tactics to gain power, I’m still getting comments about Ayn Rand on blog posts written weeks ago, so whatever you all are saying around the blogosphere, here or there, about that must be hitting a nerve. I got a new one today.
