The National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL) is holding its annual Legislative Summit in Louisville this year and the conference is just around the corner, July 25 through July 28 at the Marriott Hotel Downtown.
Events kick off on Sunday with four pre-conference sessions: Health Reform Summit, Energy Policy Summit, Livability 101 and Rising in the Ranks. All four sessions last the entire day and will be held at the Kentucky International Convention Center.
Click here for a look at the entire Summit agenda. Mitch McConnell will discuss the relationship between states and the federal government at the opening ceremony. That evening, a private waterfront concert will feature Wynonna Judd, Loretta Lynn and Patty Loveless. Jeb Bush will discuss Florida’s state school system improvements on Tuesday morning. And on Wednesday, Peter Hart and Neil Newhouse (pollsters) will discuss how Americans feel about the economy, direction of the country and how they believe elections will go come November. Closing events include dinner at Churchill Downs and live racing conducted for guests.
But most importantly? Speaker of the House Greg Stumbo and Senate President David Williams star in an awkward introductory video on NCSL’s website and you absolutely must watch it for the hilarity:

Reminder for legislators from the Ethics Commission: According to the Code of Legislative Ethics, legislators who have approval from the presiding officer of the chamber in which the legislator serves may accept prepaid transportation, food, and lodging or be reimbursed for actual expenses for out-of-state travel to legislative conferences. This year, legislators also need approval from their presiding officer to attend NCSL’s meeting in Louisville.

If Stumbo was going to walk that horse to Louisville, the least Willaims could have done was hook up a trailer and give Greg and Bandy a ride. Patty Loveless! Private or not, I’m crashing that gig. If they stop me I’ll threaten to release all of the un-edited takes it took to create that scintillating video, and I’ll distribute free tickets and 100 dollar credits to the Churchill Casino.
