Rand Paul’s new nephew-in-law or whatever campaign manager spokesperson whodilly, Jesse Benton, has been the topic of hot discussion across the Commonwealth of Kentucky for two days. Yesterday we exposed his history apologizing for white supremacists and detailed direct ties to hate groups in Kentucky.
But there’s more. Benton comes from the group Campaign for Liberty, where he made $32,500 in 2008 as a director:

Rand Paul’s dad, Ron, is understandably chairman of the organization. Rand’s sister, Lori Pyeatt, is the secretary-treasurer of the group. And to beat it all, Wayne Paul is the guy who audited and filed the CFL’s 990 with the IRS (Wayne’s firm assisted with Ron Paul’s presidential bid in 2008). Fox watching the hen house. It’s a full-on family operation. You may review the org’s 990 by clicking here (Warning: PDF Link).
More interesting, really, is that the CFL raised more than $2.2 million in 2008. Mega bucks. But even more interesting? That it spent $357,006 on “Investment management fees.”
What on earth could the Campaign For Liberty possibly be “investing” in? Gold? Metals? Oil? No, because the 990 makes it clear that they don’t own any stocks or investments – just equipment. Inquiring minds want to know what’s going on. What kind of expenses are they hiding from the government?
One person we know who does own investments in those things is Ron Paul, according to his PFD, so he makes the questions a bit more nagging.
And what about this organization’s makeup passes the smell test?
UPDATE: How is it a big dog from a 501(c)4 political organization operated by the Paul Family can work on a Paul Family political campaign and none of the campaign finance wonks of the world say a word? Just wondering.

how does Ron Paul get to publish crackpot/racist newsletters for a decade and the Media not run him out of town? Newsletters Rand likely benefited from directly btw.

Meanwhile Conway benefits from Campaign contributions he gets from the people he regulates? Not to mention the BP money he receives.

BG: If my memory serves me correctly, Rand Paul think it’s “un-American” to criticize BP for the catastrophe that is killing our land. He said it was a mere “accident.” Oh, my…
As for receiving campaign contributions from BP, I see no problem and it certainly is not the current problem. BP is underfire for not taking safety precautions and not acting fast enough to this monstrous catastrophe. Justifying destroying our environment as an “accident” is not my ideal of rational.
P.S. Poor ole Trey Grayson. He kept telling everyone Rand Paul was crazy. I bet he’s screaming, “I told you so!”
