Rand Paul: Kentucky’s Biggest Quitter

March 19th, 2010 · 22 Comments

Really, Rand, what gives?

Quitting ANOTHER debate? This time in Northern Kentucky?

You keep complaining that debates aren’t impartial… but how the hell can you even waste your breath after attending that Frank Simon mess at gay-hater central? Simon’s a financial contributor to your campaign.

WATB.

It makes sense to attend a debate put on by a donor of yours, but makes no sense to attend a debate put on by the donors of your competition.

Did Trey show up to Frank’s debate? No!

Unless one of these debates run state wide on the the big teeeveeee — they are pretty much pointless. Even a state wide teeveee one wouldn’t be watched by that many.

Yeah, but he made a huge deal about debating Trey anywhere. Now he has a lead and he’s acting like a career politician. Also, he’s changing positions everywhere. Aren’t these the things people said Rand would never be?

And my understanding is Trey never confirmed with Dr. Simon. He always had a conflict with the date. This is now two debates Rand has straight up canceled after confirming. Spin away but the Paul campaign is looking more like Washington career politics everyday.

Actually the Chamber did not donate to Trey. No one on the Chamber staff has donated to him. Of the chamber board, only 6 have donated to Trey. That may seem like alot until you consider that there are 50 members of the Chamber board.

Don’t forget this is just a few months after the the UofL College Republicans who had endorsed Paul excortiated Grayson for not attending their event.

For a second I got excited cause the headline made me think Paul quit the race… but i guess ky will have another 20 yrs of embarrassing senators..

Rand Paul’s cat is racist. His name is Liberty cat and he uses the constitution for a scratching post.

    Noah,

I am assuming that this is Noah Meeks, given the circumstances, but let me apologize in advance if I am incorrect. Nonetheless, I feel obliged to defend your criticism of the UofL College Republicans.

UofL College Republicans did not, has not, and will not endorse any candidate in any contested primary. At the time, I personally was an undecided voter; though I now support Rand Paul. Many members of the group support Secretary of State Grayson, and Secretary Grayson had attended numerous events by the UofL College Republicans prior to the intended debate. A press release acknowledging Rand Paul’s acceptance was issued after a reply from a member of Secretary Grayson’s staff indicating that debates at colleges were unworthy of his time. Though I’m sure this will not settle your qualms with the group, I felt the need to defend our group.

Secretary Grayson is always welcome at any UofL College Republican event, even though he removed me as a friend on Facebook.

On a side note, I don’t believe “excortiate” is a word.

    Best wishes,

    Andrew Carroll
    Chairman, UofL College Republicans

touche on the vocab lesson, the correct spelling is “excoriate”

I don’t have any qualms with the CRs at UofL, certainly when I was CR President we support Geoff Davis early in primaries. But go home and kid your mother if you’re saying prominent members of your group weren’t in collusion with David Adams to hastily arrange a “debate”, invite Rand which he immediately accepted, and then excoriate Grayson for not coming.

My point is not about that, except to use it as a reference point.

Your debate: obviously had potential to be biased, no precedent for CRs to host debates, unscheduled, Grayson was excoriated.

CofC: long precedent of hosting debates, less apparent bias, Paul ALREADY committed, Adams makes excuses.

    Get it?

And this is the second or 3rd of such occurences with Randall, even after Trey went to Paducah and debated with a pro-Paul moderator.

  • 9 Andrew // Mar 19, 2010 at 11:26 pm

I perfectly understand the point you’re making, and I’m not arguing with you. However, your facts regarding the UofL CR debate are mistaken. As the “prominent member of the group” I assume you are referring to, I can say in all sincerity that I had never met or talked to David Adams prior to sending him a message regarding the debate. It took weeks for the Grayson camp to respond to any message regarding the event, and when they did, they indicated that debating at college campuses was not in the interest of their campaign.

Make the arguments as you see fit regarding Paul’s decision to drop out of this race, but please do not make up facts that slander our group.

    Thank you.

    Andrew Carroll

I also thought he quit the race!

    NERD FIGHT!!!!!!

  • 12 Rand Paul Sucks // Mar 20, 2010 at 12:39 pm

The truth is that Rand Paul, the career non-politician is a politician of the highest order. He’s whitewashed the racist past of his father, refused to answer any questions about racist support of him or his father with any specificity. He continues to hover close to a scary group of people that includes one of the most bigoted people in Kentucky, Frank Simon.

I’d say he’s leading by pandering to the worst in Kentucky, but I have a feeling he embraces everything the worst in Kentucky believe in. He’s dangerous for Kentucky and will do nothing to lead the state or the country forward.

Rand Paul won’t debate because there is so much that he can be roasted for.

  • 13 Noah // Mar 20, 2010 at 2:09 pm

Don’t make too many assumptions Andrew. I never said the prominent members who orchestrated it was you.

Was your last paragraph a Freudian slip?

Dont know how you can sleep at night actively supporting someone you know is a liar (I don’t think Trey has dropped out of a debate after he has committed).

  • 14 Andrew // Mar 20, 2010 at 5:24 pm

Given I was the only one in contact with David Adams regarding it, your facts continue to be wrong.

My last paragraph wasn’t a Freudian slip, just a typo. No need to drop out of a race when Politico is reporting that you have “seized” the nomination.

I’m really not looking to get into it with you over the Paul/Grayson debate; it’s clear where I stand, and though I’m not really sure where you stand, consequently I do not care; thus, an argument will accomplish nothing. Assaulting a candidate’s character in a primary, however, does nothing more than hurt the GOP in the long run. Yet, to again answer your question, I “sleep at night” knowing that I support the candidate who I believe to be the best for the job.

Again, feel free to ask me if you have any questions you may have regarding the planned UofL Debate, since it evidently bothers you so much. Sorry if it’s led you to “lose any sleep.”

Andrew, you mean like saying he’s tied to Obama because as a statesman he didn’t tell Obama to fuck off? I mean, that’s the absolute worst and insulting campaign ad I have ever seen. All Randy Paul supporters should be embarrassed and demand he take that ad down.

And before you say that Trey has attacked first, all of Trey’s video clips on Randy are EXACTLY how he felt before he became a well known candidate. Randy has flipped his positions to become the politician he thinks we want. There’s nothing more career politician than that.

  • 16 Noah // Mar 20, 2010 at 5:57 pm

So you are on record that a candidate who lies is the best candidate for the job? I just want to make sure you have no typos there.

  • 17 mycatsbreathsmellslikecatfood // Mar 20, 2010 at 8:55 pm

David Adams sure has these young men all hot and bothered.

  • 18 Andrew // Mar 20, 2010 at 10:06 pm

I don’t believe Rand Paul has lied about anything, Noah. I do believe that Rand Paul is the best candidate for the job. You may put that on whatever record you wish to keep.

Again, I don’t really see the point of arguing on this blog post, because absolutely nothing will get accomplished and no minds will be changed. I did not get on here to argue with you, merely to represent a group that I have a responsibility to represent.

If you want to ask me why I support Dr. Paul, or why I firmly believe he’s the best candidate for the job, I’d be happy to have the conversation with you, Noah. I just feel there are better ways, and more mature ways, than to have an argument over a blog post.

You could maybe have a tickle fight?

  • 20 Noah // Mar 21, 2010 at 1:02 am

You can believe what you want but facts are stubborn things. I know you don’t go to the top school in the state but try to follow the logic.

Rand Paul said to the Chamber, “Yes, I will debate”

    Then he does not debate.

If you can, try to stretch your mental muscles to understand how factually that is lying.

If I have the choice I will vote for an honest Democrat before I will vote for a lying Republican. I’m also not the only in the GOP who feels that way. But don’t worry, like you Rand doesn’t *believe* he needs voters in KY to win an election in KY.
