FACES of Coal & U.S. Senate Candidates

March 18th, 2010 · 4 Comments

This morning FACES of Coal held an awkward rally in Louisville. For several days, the folks organizing the event and even the Rand Paul campaign, made it seem as if the rally was tacitly for Paul. This morning, at the last minute, the PR firm working for FACES decided to send a press release stating that Trey Grayson would be present. (Of course the Paul folks went ballistic at that point)

After the event, a press release was received containing the following statements:

Dr. Rand Paul: “I support Kentucky coal. I’m against cap and trade, I’m for reining in the EPA because they are limiting the permitting process and I’m for allowing mountaintop removal of coal.”

Lt. Governor Dan Mongiardo: “We ought to be talking about how to mine more coal, not less. America and Kentucky in particular can be at the forefront of energy independence and innovation while increasing our national security, creating jobs, reducing the so-called greenhouse gas emissions and keeping America competitive in the global marketplace.”

Secretary of State Trey Grayson: “Coal creates good jobs all over our Commonwealth. I have consistently favored Kentucky coal as a vital part of our national energy policy. Congress must stop pursuing anti-coal policies to help create jobs and get our economy moving again.”

Mongiardo wasn’t present, but sent a letter.

Just wanted to pass this info along.

By the way: Rand Paul’s pro-coal supporters were out-of-state college kids.

Who is the FACES of Coal PR firm?

Peritus is the firm to which I’m referring. But I think they could have more? (Not sure if I’ve written about this issue before or not)

Thanks. The reason I asked is because KY FACES spokesperson/director is Phil Osborne, the CEO of Preston-Osborne, a marketing and research firm. One of their clients is the East Kentucky Power Cooperative, and I believe Jackson Energy, and at least one or two other electric co-ops. I know they’ve done polling fairly regularly for Jackson Energy.

I was just wondering if Phil was also doing the PR for FACES. It’s already such a tangled web of conflicted interests….not that him doing PR for FACES would make it any moreso at this point. But, was just curious…

I’m pretty sure he’s also doing PR.

Will poke around in the archives when I’m back at the computer.
