Crazy Jim Bunning Goes Crazy Again

February 26th, 2010 · 14 Comments

This on the Senate floor in a heated discussion about an extension of unemployment benefits.

Woe, the crazy hypocrisy of Jim Bunning.

UPDATE: Click here (Warning: PDF Link) for the letter Governor Steve Beshear just sent to Jim Bunning.

“These unemployed Kentuckians come from hard-working families that have struggled for months to find new employment in the greatest economic recession in our lifetime,” wrote Gov. Beshear.  “They are mothers and fathers who are trying to put food on the table for their children and seniors who are trying to pay the rent.”

P.S. WHAS11 just said Bunning’s Louisville office received a bomb threat shortly before 4:00 P.M. Guess there ARE people more insane than Bunning.

Bunning has been and continues to be an embarrassment to Kentucky. Any of the candidates running for the office democrat or republican will make much a much better Senator than Bunning.
He is proud to say he never watches the news, reads the paper and now is upset he is missing the UK game. Go back to Northern KY please soon.

We need to hear how Conway and Mongiardo and Grayson and Paul feel about this. Someone needs to be asking them to rebuke Bunning in the strongest of terms, particularly the two Republicans.

Both Conway and Mongiardo have already done so.

Paul and Grayson are probably peeing all over each other as they try to figure out where they stand.

I sent Senator Durbin a thank you note for his efforts in standing up for Kentuckians against Bunning.

This whole situation is a cluster. The fact is that Harry Reid stripped it out of the jobs bill to make it look cheaper. While I think Bunning belongs on the front porch rocking chair of a Cracker Barrel yelling at small children, the cost should be accounted for, just as the Bush’s war costs should have been counted.

At what point to we as country start to ween the unemployed off of unemployment benefits. We are going on 3 years now, with no end in sight. Another year and we would have supported some of the unemployed through a 4-year college degree.

At some point we need to accept that the job market has changed and is not going to return to what is was. As such, the chronically unemployed need to consider relocating to areas with better job markets or finding another area of work.

I understand it’s tough out there an people very much need a safety net, but where does it end? 4 years? 8 years? 10 years? as long as unemployment stays at a certain level? While Bunning is an old coot that needs to just disappear, I think it is a discussion that we need to have as a nation and some tough decisions need to be made.

    Mark H (Not Hebert)

what do you want starvation, how about another WAR (snark)

  • 11 Mark H (Not Hebert) // Feb 27, 2010 at 12:03 am

That’s exactly what I want. Starvation and WAR. I’m a horrible heartless person who thinks that at some point, after 3 or 4 years of being unemployed, that you might want to figure out a different game plan for finding employment.

Like I said, Bunning is an embarrassment, but I do think there needs to be some serious discussion of when these extensions will be phased out for able-bodied employable workers.

    “Those Damn Poor Kentuckians”

Bunning is a prime example of a U. S. Senator with a loud mouth and a closed mind. Except for throwing baseballs in great fashion a half-century or so ago, he has added nothing to the advancement of humankind. Go quickly to hibernation, Jimbo.

Read about the Jim Bunning Foundation here http://www.salon.com/news/opinion/joe_conason/2010/02/26/bunning the clearly hit the nail on the head in say that he is “a man of low character”.

Jobs? Unemployment? Those issues have nothing to do with the GOP primary!

    War, torture, life, death….
