"Welcome to KY, Inc."

Given the latest horrid U. S. Supreme Court decision, would it not be appropriate for these names to be added to the candidate list in KY and at least let the public know who will pull the strings of office?: Humana; YUM Brands; Ashland Inc.; Lexmark Internatinal; Omnicare Inc; Kindred Healthcare Inc. What a slate of corporate power for a country fast becoming a banana republic. (Some might even call it "fascism.")

I stand corrected, but I wanted to emphasize where it was due to the fact that Jake implied that everything went through Frankfort, which it doesn't. I would hate to see a great candidate be in the wrong place. I mean, what if Doug Hawkins (who has yet to file for his seat) or Jim King go to Frankfort instead of the Urban Government Center? :-)

I'm watching a few local elections. Judging from the quality of candidates that are filing in those cities and counties, a lot of communities in this state are screwed.

The County Clerk's office is NOT downtown. It's on Barrett Avenue where the Baptist Hospital used to be, across from the Police substation.
If you are running for state or U.S. house or senate or judge, you will need to travel to Frankfort. The office there is in the southwest corner of the state capital.

All it takes to run is the proper form, signed by two witnesses who are registered to vote in the district you are running in, and a filing fee which varies depending on what office you are running for.

You must have been registered in the party you are running in by last Dec. 31st. If you changed parties this month, you are SOL. If you are registered something other than Republican or Democrat, you must submit a declaration of Candidacy by April 1st, and have a bunch of signatures of registered voters in the district you are running in by mid-August, along with the filing fee (or Denise Harper-Angel will get you).

Good luck - and don't take that name-calling that people will give you seriously --- heck, if they cared enough to want to see the system changed, they would run for office also rather than just talk about it. The criticizers of people who really want change bad enough to do something about it (like run for office) are the real crazy ones.

Too true. The saddest thing is that those who could do a better job won't make the sacrifice to get elected and then to serve--and sacrifice it is these days. And look at the gang you would be joining for the most part: thieves, bums, no integrity--you would have to go along to get along and why jump into that mess? So sad.

Or to your local County Clerk for non-federal and non-state races such as mayor, county clerk, or city council.
