Very Important: Lt. Dan on Miss Kentucky

Ready for it? This is the most awkward thing I’ve received from state government. And I’ve received a lot, kids.

Miss Val sent out an urgent press release a little bit ago and the entirety of Frankfort has been about to wet itself. Take a look:

Lt. Governor Wishes Miss Kentucky Good Luck in Miss USA Pageant

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 29, 2010) —  On behalf of the Commonwealth of Kentucky I’d like to wish Miss Kentucky Mallory Ervin the best of luck as she competes in this weekend’s Miss America 2010 pageant.  We are proud of all she has accomplished thus far and what she has done as the spokesperson for the Kentucky Department of Agriculture’s “Kentucky Proud” program.

Mallory Ervin is the daughter of Gary and Lisa Ervin and is from Morganfield, Ky.

I’ve gotten so many text messages, calls and emails that I had to rush to a computer here in exotic Shreveport to publish this mess.

Issuing that hilarious press release. Wow.

I think it really is time for Jack & Dan to wage a high heel race.

P.S. Miss USA and Miss America are two entirely separate programs. The googlebox is helpful.

Happy Snow-Laden Friday Evening, Folks!

Is Jack Conway taking a page out of Daniel Mongiardo’s playbook by trying to play on both sides of the fence? In short? Mmm hmm. [More B&P]

Lt. Dan is apparently the victim of a whisper campaign alleging some unsavory things. Plus he loved that black guy in Warhsington before he was against him. [Marcus Carey]

Some day Steve Beshear will stop deliberately missing the point. Especially when it comes to the prison system. [Blue in the Bluegrass]

Obama Details Small Business Tax Cut

Today President Barack Obama will announce all the details of the Small Business Jobs and Wages Tax Cut, part of the shenanigans he mentioned during the State of the Union address.

Here’s the gist… you get a fancy tax cut for hiring new people.

Through the SBJWTC:

  • Businesses will receive a $5,000 tax credit for every net new employee that they employ in 2010. The total amount of the credit for any one firm will be capped at $500,000 in order to ensure the majority of the benefit goes to actual small businesses. Start-ups will be eligible for half of the tax credit.
  • Small businesses that increase wages or hours for their existing employees will not be reimbursed for the Social Security payroll taxes they pay on real increases in their payrolls. The bonus is based on Social Security payrolls, so it would not apply to wage increases above the current taxable maximum of $106,800.
  • Firms will be able to claim the credit on a quarterly basis, which gets money out to businesses quickly and provides early incentive to hire and increase payrolls. Non-profits will be eligible for the credit and start-ups will be eligible for half the credit.
  • Proposal is estimated to cost $33 billion.

From a release we got from the White House, here are a few examples of how the tax cut would work… or just click the clicky to check them out after the jump…

Todd Eklof Releases An Interesting New Book

Take note, religious types (and all gays everywhere), cause Todd Ekloff has released a book that is nothing short of intriguing.

It’s called A Gospel for Liberals: Considering the historical Jesus in light of today’s most controversial social issues.

Remember Todd? He’s the heterosexual guy fired by Kentucky Farm Bureau because he didn’t hate the gays. Here’s a refresher:

Todd says his book “explores the life and teachings of Jesus in context with the social, political, and economic circumstances of his day, leaving us with a convincing portrayal of him as a progressive activist who was eventually executed for this very reason. It’s a refreshing and brazen exegesis of the liberating truths of the historical Jesus.”
