Bailey Family Tragedy Is Unconscionable

December 25th, 2009 · 12 Comments

Our thoughts are with Cathy & Irv Bailey and their family.

Waking up to a fire on Christmas Day is bad enough. But potential arson and the death of two children? My god.

Everyone: please keep them in your warmest thoughts.

    This is heart-wrenching.
I lost my brother to a fire in January, 2009, right before the Ice Storm. It is still hard to comprehend – especially for his son who along with an off-duty fireman pulled him from the burning apartment.
But 2 children on Christmas — this very special holiday will NEVER be the same for the devastated Bailey family. It just chokes me up.

There are no words to express…
Thank you Jake for putting up this tragic news.
May the suffering of this family be relieved by the love and support they will receive from their family, friends, the community.
The loss of two young children is unfathomable and compounded by the loss of home on Christmas Day when family gathered to celebrate togetherness only accents the horror.
May they find some kind of peace in their sorrow as they will gradually come to terms with this awful loss.

Cathy Bailey is one of the finest people I have met in my time in Kentucky politics. My heart is absolutely broken for her and her family.

May we all say prayers for the Bailey’s this weekend.

I met Cathy Bailey earlier this year and found her to be a very nice and unpretentious lady. This is very sad and God bless everyone touched by this.

I had a report that a bridge on River Road collapsed under the weight of a fire truck heading to this fire, thus delaying response time. Was this the bridge that River Fields (I think it was) led a fight against it being replaced?

The original story on the CJ site was a simple blurb about a bridge accident. It’s still available in the Google cache:

It wasn’t the same bridge involved in the River Fields controversy. I’m pretty sure it was this bridge:

    What an awful tragedy.
