If Obama honestly believed what he said in that video, he would have been a leader in the Health Insurance debate over the last 10 months, not a follower. What a disappointment he has been.
Obama would have set down certain guideposts that he wanted the Bill to have and ask the House and Senate to fill in the rest. Instead, Obama ask the House and Senate to write the entire bill, thus becoming a follower. He basically became useless in the debate.
Since he became a follower, not a leader, the Health Insurance Bill has no teeth, only a skeleton. Sure it has a few good provisions, but damn few, and they are ones the Insurance Industry is willing to accept. It is a huge win for the Insurance Industry and everyone knows it.
The Insurance Industry still will be the only Industry in the USA which does not have to follow the law Antitrust laws of the country. In other words they have government protections against competition. (one of the main reasons there are 2 manybe 3 insurance companies in most states, not more) I thought everyone believes in the free market system, everyone does except the Insurance Industry. It was removed by (D) Senator Ben Nelson, a former Insurance Company Executive.—time to quit ragging on Vice President Cheney Democrats for only caring about his past business, the Democrats are no different.
No non profit public option to keep costs down and allow Americans, those who are self employed, small business and many others to band together to have lower rates. Not everyone works for a big company or the government.
It is too bad that Obama has no guts to lead, because the country had a wonderful chance to do something that was really needed and we had a president with no leadership skills.
As the cost of insurance continues to climb with double digit increases ever year, employers will continue to drop coverage and benefits as they have for the last 9 years and when you are next, do not complain. Remember that we had a chance to do something and it was squandered by a president who did not lead and those who were against true reform.
The blame restly clearly on the shoulders of Barrack Obama though. Without using the bully pulpit he was rendered voiceless and the powerful once again won. It cannot be blamed on Lieberman or anyone else. Obama is the president and should act like the president.
Sadly though, I am not surprised at his lack of conviction.
I am also disappointed that Obama did not show show leadership by setting down certain guideposts that he wanted the Bill to have and ask the House and Senate to fill in the rest; as noted above…
For his “signature legislation”, he could have stepped on many toes to get this done back when he had the support of the USA people to clean up the 8 year mess…
