Here’s the release post-presser of the Governor’s in Shelbyville this morning:
SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (Dec. 4, 2009) — Governor Beshear today personally thanked members of the Shelby County economic development team who worked to lure Harley-Davidson to Kentucky, noting that their efforts to showcase the local workforce and cooperation of local government make Shelby County an attractive destination for future businesses.
“The fact that Harley-Davidson designated Shelby County as its only relocation choice – beating out several other competitive communities – speaks very well for your hometown,” Beshear said. “Make no mistake, your work on this project lays the groundwork for future jobs and investment, and we’re looking forward to working side-by-side with you to make that happen.”
Harley-Davidson had named Shelby County as their final relocation choice if they opted to leave their current facility in York, Pa. After the York union approved a new 7-year contract, the company’s board announced Thursday their plan to remain in Pennsylvania.
“We’re disappointed that we didn’t get Harley, but we are extremely energized by the opportunities this project has afforded our community,” said Bobby Hudson, Shelby County Industrial and Development Foundation CEO. “Our team did a fantastic job of showing what Shelby County has to offer employers, and we’re confident we’ll land the next one.”
Gov. Beshear said Harley-Davidson representatives were complimentary of the cooperation shown between state and local officials during the months-long site selection process.
Does anyone believe Shelby Countians bought this?
Will the failed attempt at luring Harley-Davidson to Kentucky really pay off for Shelbyville?

bet this was someone’s idea of damage control (Hayes or Edelen?) after bad press and how Kentucky was used. guess what…even dumber. clearly they have no ideas when it comes to good policy and now, it appears, they are even dumber when it comes to political ones too.

one more thought…who has a press conference to remind people of their failed attempt to bring jobs to a community unless they have a new announcement about jobs. duh…this group is embarrassing.

Steve Beshear has now gotten so enamored with his and his cracker jack economic team’s failures that he is holding press conferences to announce them.
Never before have I seen a Governor hold a press conference to announce he is a failures.
What a one term loser, I can’t wait for Adam Edelen to announce his run for future office.

Well, as long as one stays on their game, opportunities are a multiplicity, not a one-shot.
This presser should be taken by Shelby Countians as a cue to keep their chins up, and keep working to make their locale hospitable for other companies who may be considering relocation.
