Rep. Jim Wayne Calls Steve Beshear Out

December 3rd, 2009 · 3 Comments

Kudos to Rep. Jim Wayne for pointing out just what’s at stake for our Gas Station Governor:

Wayne said this week the time is right to address tax inequities and produce a tax code with more sustainable revenues. He said Beshear’s reversal on the promise to consider tax reform could cost him votes on other legislation – perhaps even on gambling which passed the House by only two votes the last time.

Maybe the gub will think twice the next time he issues a ridiculous statement like he did on November 19.

The more the man works against real progress and real change for all Kentuckians, the more people like Jim Wayne will become relevant.

I heart Jim Wayne. Politically, I mean.

I helped Jim Wayne in his first election eighteen years. He was a good man then and remains so. He has consistently been right on every issue affecting the underrepresented in society. His heart has always been in the right place. Every session he introduces this measure on tax reform. Every session it is gambled away while we band-aid here, transfer there, zero-sum this, and borrow and bond against the rest, as if the politics of borrowing and bonding (as Reagan did in the 1980s) does not eventually catch up with one’s financial situation.

One could always say that sooner or later we will have to take up the legislation sponsored by the Gentleman from Jefferson-35. That day of reckoning is here. We would have been far better off if Jim’s legislation had been heard, debated, and voted upon long before we were hit with the roughest economic times of the last seventy years. But his colleagues on both sides of the aisle, and those in power, have continued their battle against the credit rating of our state’s future, and the benefits of a sustainable revenue flow today.

There is no more “sooner or later.” The day is here to address the issues addressed (once gain) in Representative Wayne’s bill. It will be interesting see if this lone voice crying in the wilderness is finally heard. If not, the advent of good government will last even longer than it already has.

Imagine if all legislators where an decent as Wayne. Hes one of the few who is not impressed with all the campaign money throw around and his voting habits show it.
