Afternoon Dept of Keeping Kids Uneducated

December 1st, 2009 · 4 Comments

Maybe Kentucky schools wouldn’t face $20 million in spending cuts if Gas Station Governor Steve Beshear would actually do something for a change. Getting rid of all of his special advisors would probably pay for a third of that shortage. And shouldn’t we be focusing cuts in other, less important areas of government before digging into education? [Bluegrass Politics]

National media is beginning to believe Kentucky’s U.S. Senate race is about urban vs. rural. Kentuckians know that couldn’t be further from reality. It’s the media that perpetuates the myth of urban-rural mutual hatred. [MSNBC]

Something about this “green” development in Las Vegas doesn’t smell quite right. But it’s marvelous to look at. [Fast Company]

Kentucky’s Department of Public Health marked World AIDS Day. Now to get them to mark HIV/AIDS awareness the other 364 days each year. [Press Release]

Governor Steve Beshear’s lack of a statement on this day of importance speaks wonders. Doesn’t help that I called the Governor’s office for a statement and was met with nerves and someone begging me not to bring up “Beshear and AIDS” in the same sentence. That culture of fear is exactly why Frankfort is in shambles. [Sad Lack of Awareness]

Renee True is back again. Lexingtonians are trying to deal with her by distributing hand sanitizer. [Barefoot & Progressive]

Special interests in a political campaign? Surely not! Especially in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. [Tom Loftus]

The national media knows who Mitch McConnell is supporting in the U.S. Senate primary. You’ll love reading about this dust-up between Rand Paul and the NRSC. Pee alert. [CQ Politics]

Stephen George is out as editor of LEO Weekly. He’s moving to Nashville. Oh, and C-J staffers get another furlough week in the first quarter of 2010. [The ‘Ville Voice]

    Jake!

It’s the JeffCo Dems that are turning the Dems into a rural vs. urban conflict. Except for Mangy-Mongi, I have yet to meet an arrogant Democrat from an out-state location. Not even ‘Shiz-fore-brainz’ Hall is arrogant. According to every JeffCo Dem I’ve met there are no Dems in KY except in the golden triangle - and the center of the triangle doesn’t count.

By my calcs and JeffCo data there are more republican’ts in northern 2 tiers of counties than Dems; it may even be that there are only 3 counties in the GT that are Democratic - Franklin, Fayette & Jeff & therefore lack a majority even in their hallowed ground. Arrogance personified

It’s clear to me that you’ve met very few Democrats from Louisville. Or maybe you’re just completely full of shit.

And no one here would refer to the city as “Jefferson County.”

I have to disagree some about the education cuts. You ought to go to some of the rural counties and see how many central office administrators these school districts have, and how much they are being paid. There would be some fertile grounds for cuts.
