Today Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius released a new report highlighting the benefits of health insurance reform for Kentucky.

“Families, seniors and businesses are all suffering under the health care status quo,” said Sebelius. “Our new reports demonstrate how health insurance reform will improve health care for all Americans.”

Some of the specifics:

  • 654,000 Kentuckians who don’t have insurance and 196,000 who have non-group insurance could get affordable coverage through the health insurance exchange
  • 444,000 Kentuckians would qualify for premium tax credits to help with the cost of health coverage
  • 724,000 Kentucky seniors would receive free preventive services
  • 129,000 Kentucky seniors would have their brand-name drug costs in the Medicare Part D “doughnut hole” cut in half
  • 44,800 small businesses could receive tax credits to help make premiums more affordable
