The latest SurveyUSA/WHAS11 on the U.S. Senate race is out
Republicans
- Rand Paul 35%
- Trey Grayson 32%
- Johnson 2%
- Oerther 1%
- Thoney 3%
- Other 10%
Paul is up 5 and Grayson is down 9. But 18% undecided? Ruh ro.
Democrats
- Jack Conway 28%
- Daniel Mongiardo 39%
- Price 2%
- Sweeney 1%
- Miller-Johnson 5%
- Other 10%
Still 16% undecided. Wonder if Jack Conway will finally start sacking up and taking this race seriously?
I’ll update this story with a link when the story is live on the internet.

UPDATE:
The Conway camp issued the following:
“There will be many polls throughout this campaign. We know that at the end of the day, voters will be looking for the candidate that has real results, a record of integrity, that will hold Congress accountable and will focus on creating jobs and opportunity for all Kentuckians – that candidate is Jack Conway. This poll, along with other independent polling, shows that Jack Conway is the only Democrat that can win back Wendell Ford’s Senate seat.
The Survey USA polls reveals what other independent polls consistently show – that Jack Conway beats Rand Paul by 5 points (44 to 39) while Mongiardo ties with Paul and Mongiardo trails Trey Grayson by 10 points (48 to 38).
The September 30 Rasmussen poll showed Conway ahead of Paul by 4 points and tied with Grayson while Grayson beats Mongiardo by 7 points and Paul beats Mongiardo by 5.
With regards to the Democratic Primary match-up, this Survey USA poll is significantly out of line with two recent internal polls showing Jack Conway is in a very strong position with Democratic primary voters.”

I doubt it. I say get out of Kentucky while you can because it’s not going to be the 21st century here for another 20 years…

I wish now I’d been home to take the call from the pollster. I wonder if they had a category for “both Paul and Grayson suck?”

“Other”

It is very early in the cycle. I know WE all care, but most people do not. I think Grayson and Conway realize that. You could easily title this poll – “Which name have you see in the papers most recently?” The electorate can rarely separate name recognition from candidate viability.

“Other” doesn’t begin to express my dislike for either candidate.

I think Section is correct. Polls this early in the cycle are virtually meaningless in terms of ultimate support at the election polls. Numbers this early are only useful for spinning for the purpose of fund raising.
“Look, we’re behind, so give us money so we can catch up and pass our opponent.”
“Look, we’re ahead and have momentum, so give to our campaign.”

I’d also like to say that, like many, I find statewide races in Kentucky to be usually depressing. We always seem to end up with mediocrity. I guess that means we’re a mediocre people if we can’t produce better candidates than this?

Considering that Miller-Johnson has not raised any money at all (see http://www.fec.gov/DisclosureSearch/HSRefreshCandList.do?category=stateS_all&stateName=KY&election_yr=2010), I’m surprised that she’s at 5%, same with Roger Thoney’s third-place showing on the R-side.
Jake, do you know why Miller-Johnson’s numbers are zero and why Thoney isn’t even on the FEC list?

This far out from the primaries, 18% and 16% undecided is about right. Voters won’t really start focusing on the candidates until January.

You can view my campaign finance reports by looking under House District 4. I have been filing since I ran for U.S. Representative in 2000.
