Paul Campaign Discovers Campaign Trackers

October 28th, 2009 · 23 Comments

Rand Paul’s U.S. Senate campaign has discovered that political opponents often hire trackers to follow opposing candidates around.

Who in politics knew that ever happened? How novel! Wish other candidates would do this. Oh, wait. Ha.

They caught one tracker on camera and he gave a good performance:

Proof the Grayson camp is considering Paul a serious opponent?

Oh, here’s some video of Rand Paul from a Harrison County GOP gathering on October 24th:

Somebody watch it and tell us what he said.

P.S. Maybe the Paul campaign shouldn’t be contacting me to publish videos that harm their opponent if those videos don’t disclose who paid for or produced them? Appearance of impropriety can be problematic in high-profile campaigns.

Filming a guy flipping pancakes is a little over the top. The Grayson campaign should be smarter than that.

Not impressed by Grayson and his crew so far. They need to step it up, big time. Some advice: Instead of spending money filming a pancake breakfast, spend some time talking about issues Republicans care about!

It’s really not over the top. It’s par the course.

You never know when a candidate is going to screw up.

And if the Paul camp isn’t tracking Grayson? Well, that’s proof to me that Paul isn’t taking this seriously.

Hey, at least Grayson didn’t fall off the back of the stage flipping a pancake, like Gary Bauer did….

Truly one of the funniest things I have ever seen in my life and a fitting summary of the Bauer Presidential run.

I guess that’s what Grayson is then, a par for the course candidate. Yay for us!

I hate all of you people for talking about carbs/making me hungry.

Rand has nothing to hide. Please send the cameramen. And as far as impropriety and funding disclosure, Rand has many individual, unpaid supporters. We make videos, signs and volunteer our time for free because it’s the right thing to do. We don’t need to be paid off. Par for the course is a pretty low bar, Grayson. Rand is raising the bar and doesn’t need to stoop to such levels to win.

You don’t have to be paid for there to be appearance of impropriety. Especially when campaign manager David Adams goes out of his way to publicize attacks on Paul’s opponent using materials produced by non-campaign entities.

That sort of transparency matters, like it or not. Complaining about it being an affront to the First Amendment won’t get anyone anywhere, either.

Okay- forget the pancakes for a moment, who is this guy that’s editing music on Rand Paul videos? He’s a friggin’ genius with the mood music.

Many that are new to politics aren’t aware of these tactics believe it or not. Many of those Tea Party types you love have no idea their elected officials stoop to this level. Rand Paul is in his church and they are filming him? WEAK!

Paul’s campaign staff are not political newbies. They are well-aware of modern day politicking.

And even if they were taken by surprise (they weren’t)? It’s their duty as a campaign to know what’s going on. Otherwise they’re not taking this race seriously.

Could a candidate legally evict an opposition spy from a campaign function?

When Fletcher was running for re-election, there was a young girl shooting video at all his public events, official or campaign. Late in the campaign he even took to recognizing her as a member of the audience and called her by name. She ended up getting some cushy job in the Beshear administration but I don’t know if she is still employed or not.

If it’s not an event that’s open and in a public space? Of course they can evict that individual. Just as the Paul camp should have done.

I’ve personally pushed/dragged people out of private campaign events on a number of occasion. Even one of Mitch McConnell/Anne Northup’s little buttcramps.

“If it’s not an event that’s open and in a public space? Of course they can evict that individual. Just as the Paul camp should have done.”

I don’t know, it looks like that had more fun not evicting him.

Besides kicking somebody out probably wouldn’t play too well on camera.

“The whole scenario is quite amusing. They pay someone to drive five hours round trip to video me flipping corncakes on the grill. I’m sure I won’t be laughing, though, when they splice the footage together, add an ominous voice, and then begin their smear campaign.”

“It’s kind of creepy having some guy who won’t even respond to a friendly “Hello” filming me eating and in private conversation. If their intentions are honorable and they just want to help Grayson learn to improve the content and form of his speeches, over 90 speeches are available online at http://www.randpaul2010.com .”

Hey David, why does your candidate think it’s OK to compare Obama to Hitler?

Also, once Roe v. Wade is overturned, as Rand wants, does he think that women who have an abortion should go to jail for murder?

    Anxiously await your response.

  • 17 curtis morrison // Oct 28, 2009 at 5:48 pm

    Excellent questions, Joe. David?

  • 18 briansmith // Oct 28, 2009 at 6:35 pm

I’m guessing that the issue of whether or not a woman should go to jail, or even face the death penalty, for having an abortion will be up to the individual states to decide. Or, in the spirit of local governance that gets these libertard types all foamy, it can be decided on a neighborhood-by-neighborhood basis. Abortion will become like real estate, all about location, location, location.

“And if the Paul camp isn’t tracking Grayson? Well, that’s proof to me that Paul isn’t taking this seriously.”

At this point, I see no reason for the Paul camp to do that. (A) From most all available metrics, he’s got the momentum and gaining every week. (B) To “track” Grayson all he has to do is turn on the TV every few weeks and watch Trey alienate a decent share of the voters like he did this week … proclaiming most everyone else in Kentucky didn’t have a noble right to the Senate like he did because their family didn’t start out in Kentucky during the Jurassic Period:) We couldn’t have scripted that one.

Is it just me, or is that guys name reminisent of some spooky character who would always appear at the end of every Scooby Doo episode?

The Shaggy and Scoob the bad guy and Velma pull the mask off … “It’s CHANDLER JENKINS!!!”

    Chandler then replies:

“Yep, and I would woulda got away with it too if it weren’t for you meddling kids.”

  • 21 Rod // Oct 28, 2009 at 11:20 pm

Good News! With Rand Paul merely running around the state talking about the economy, he’s already created one new job and he’s not even in the Senate yet!

  • 22 Just me // Oct 29, 2009 at 9:19 am

I’d like to hear David’s answer to the abortion question. And, while we’re hypothetically throwing people in jail…how about the men that supplied the sperm?

  • 23 jake // Oct 29, 2009 at 9:22 am

    David’s afraid to answer publicly.
