Joe Sonka went to the fancy Kentucky Democratic Party gathering last weekend and had some discussions with, you know, some dudes and such.

John Yarmuth on Harry Reid and Ben Chandler:

I asked how he felt Harry Reid was doing as leader, and the awkward silence/thinking commenced (sometimes silence speaks quite loudly). I also asked what the hell was the problem with Ben Chandler, sticking with the Blue Dogs and not sticking up for a public option. He had that same look on his face, and said that Ben doesn’t like taking electoral chances… which is the understatement of the century.

Crit Luallen on Lt Dan:

I had to ask about the “Fuck it all” tapes. She did not mince any words, and didn’t express any doubt that Mongiardo said everything on those tapes. She called Mongiardo’s words disrespectful towards the office of Governor, and called it a major distraction and potentially harmful to the party in the long term, i.e. 2011. To say she looked pissed at Lt. Dan when she expressed this would be a major understatement.

Governor Steve Beshear on Lt. Dan:

I asked him straight up why he continues to support Mongiardo even though he called him a whore, SOB, and worst Governor in KY history. He said that he’d “never even heard the tapes before” (bull) and gave the same standard no comment answer. I told him verbatim what Crit said, and the poor guy… he didn’t look well. He just said “well… I’ve been called worse”.

And Ben Chandler making Jack Conway look spineless:

I also gave him credit for leading on mountaintop removal and cap and trade, and he said that no matter how bad this stuff polls, he is going to stick by his position and not budge, because it is the right thing to do, now and for future generations.
