We hear (old news, we know) Tommy Thompson plans to run for Congress.
Thoughts?
Maybe his tour of the Extreme Makeover home with Governor Steve Beshear will make it possible? Just kidding.
Seriously, though, what do you folks think about this?

Won’t happen. As popular as Tommy is in his district, he knows Guthrie is going to be nearly impossible to beat in the conservative 2nd. Tommy’s going to get a lot of exposure on the Extreme Home Makeover show later this year though. Boswell is thinking about challenging Guthrie again.

Thompson has proven himself a competent, effective legislator.
It was all over Frankfort that he wanted to be Beshear’s next running mate, but we all know where that went.
He probably would have been a better choice than Mayor-Love-Me-or-Else because he would have garnered crucial support in the western part of the commonwealth.
Thompson’s foremost liability is that silly rug. His is the worst wig in Frankfort (and many are suspicious, if not unconvincing).
Nevertheless, Thompson would be a good replacement for incumbent U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie.

Tommy is a great guy and a great legislator. Almost everyone likes him. He’d make a great candidate. He — like most any other D in a district like Kentucky’s 2nd — wouldn’t stand a chance of winning in the current environment.

well, if he’s so popular maybe someone else will pick him as a running mate. no one owns the first floor.

It’s my understanding that Senator Boswell was going to run again for that seat. Wouldn’t be crazy to have two Democrats from Owensboro running again for the nomination?

We had two Daviess Countians in the last race. And, we lost. Maybe you are right.
I think the only Democrat who could win this seat, and I can’t believe I am going to say this, but I’ve heard others who are a lot smarter than me suggest it, is Jody Richards.

There is not a Democrat that can win this seat this time around especially Boswell. The overwhelming majority of repeat candidates do not win and there is no evidence that Boswell would be in better position this time. Also, this race will not be one of the DCCC priorities.
