Rep. W. Keith Hall of Pike County Has a Past

August 27th, 2009 · 3 Comments

And why is it we think he was behind the Mountain Water Board scandal? Maybe it has something to do with that past corruption?

Let’s take a stroll down memory lane to November 11, 1999. Some excerpts from a story in the Appalachian News-Express, partially compiled from AP reports:

Pike BOE member resigns

Hall avoids prosecution

A Pike County school board member has resigned under the threat of removal proceedings for allegedly trying to influence hiring in the district.

W. Keith Hall, who returned from an eight-month suspension earlier this year, had received an ultimatum last week that he resign by 4 p.m. yesterday or face removal charges. He faxed his resignation to state Education Commissioner Wilmer Cody at 1:55 a.m. Saturday.

The complaints included audiotaped evidence that Hall allegedly had tried to influence hiring, Noland said. Sucha ctions are prohibited by the 1990 Kentucky Education Reform Act.

Hall, who held the board’s District Five seat since 1997, did not return telephone calls by the News-Express made to his Kimper mining materials business yesterday.

But Hall said in his one-paragraph resignation letter to Cody that “never once did I succumb to the strong-arm tactics of politics, or bribery, or the various other threats and slanders.” The letter did not identify the source of the alleged tactics or threats.

Yeah. That’s why. Because of past corruption – which he still attempted to deny after taped evidence was presented.

No wonder Keith Hall is running scared this week. It’s time for him to come clean.

Somewhat related note: Yesterday the MWD gave a public statement about being saddened over the removal of Litafik and Akers. Rhonda James, finance director in the office of Pike County Judge-Executive Wayne T. Rutherford, was appointed chair of the board.

Maybe they really need to change the Kentucky Constitution and drop the part about the dual, and add have you ever been arrested or have to quit a job because you were found guilty of wrongdoing.
Perhaps they dont change it because we could not get enough legislators to vote for it.

The thing that bugs me about this whole deal is the PSC order not being appealable to the court system. Not this particular order, but such PSC orders in general. I’d like to see someone challenge that “can’t be appealed” provision in court.

Keith: I was great meeting you and we truly appreciated you presence and support of the RAM project this past weekend in Pikeville. We are keenly interested in establishing a University of Louisville Dental School presence in Pikeville either at the Hospital, School of Osteopathy, Public Health Department or other; and hope to work with the community and Commonwealth and Federal government to make this work. We will stay in touch individually and through Bill Collins.
