Tomorrow Attorney General Jack Conway will announce Kentucky’s first statewide prescription drug abuse task force and a $50,000 grant from the National Association of Drug Diversion Investigators.
Prosecutors, members of law enforcement and two Morehead mothers, whose daughters died from prescription drug overdoses, will be on-hand to participate in a press conference in Lexington.
But, really, where is the Governor on this matter?
The legislature?
There are rumors floating all over Frankfort that the Governor is afraid to touch the issue and is dragging his feet. We’d like to see him and everyone else step up to the plate and make this a big damn deal.

Better late than never.
But won’t that end up costing us some of our state’s top ten rankings?

Not sure why Beshear wouldn’t want to touch this. Even the pharmaceutical companies are spending big bucks on educational efforts to make sure their legitimate products are used only for legitimate purposes. Unless Beshear has some big druggies or dealers in his corner as supporters or contributors.

Everyone is afraid to take a risk, for some reason.
They can spend untold millions on drug wars that accomplish nothing… but can’t give the time of day to an effort that could really make an impact.

Maybe it’s political. Perhaps Beshear doesn’t want to do something that makes Conway look good, as compared to his preferred Senate race choice Mongiardo.

Definitely not that.

So you know the answer then, Jake. :)

It’s called lack of leadership and cowardice. On all fronts. For both parties.

Surely, Mr. Magruder, you had your tongue planted firmly in cheek when you stated that Mongiardo was Beshear’s preferred Senate candidate.

Follow the money…………the pharmeuctical industry contributes heavily to both republicans and democrats….2010 is an election year and they do not want to hurt any deep pocket feelings. Jake is correct. There is a serious void of moral authority in Frankfort.

Conservative: maybe.

It would be cheaper for the US government to buy all the drugs entering the USA than to keep fighting the drug wars.
