Fancy Rumors From Fancy Frankfort

August 13th, 2009 · 6 Comments

Okay, so this isn’t so much rumor as it is reality, but Julian Carroll has been telling everyone who will listen that Dan Kelly will get a fancy appointment. Everyone pretty much knows that. But he’s been pushing people, along with David Boswell, to begin campaigning for Jodie Haydon in in the 14th State Senate District now in anticipation of an upcoming special election. Just thought I’d share, as it lends more solidity to the rumor that Steve Beshear will be removing Kelly from the State Senate sometime soon.

Tom Buford has told everyone who will listen over the past several years that he made a $5 million profit when he sold his bank. So why does he continue to tell his legislative colleagues that “if you don’t charge the state for lunch on your meeting days, you leave about $1,400 per year on the table” ?? Is he that much of a cheapskate? When you attend meetings in Frankfort (as a legislator), you can claim that you spend up to $10 (per meal) for breakfast, lunch and dinner without receipts and get reimbursed. Maybe he does that so he can afford that fancy limo of his?

The rumor mill is working like crazy to try to convince us that Vince Gabbart will be the next secretary of transportation. And. Uh. We’ll believe it when we see it.

Both Steve Beshear’s and Daniel Mongiardo’s campaign drivers are involved in the race for Franklin County Sheriff. Greg Muravchick, of Justice and Public Safety, is running for that office while still employed by state government. It’s legal, but doesn’t pass the smell test. His apparent but unannounced campaign manager is none other than Charles “Chuck” Geveden, of Transportation, and Mongiardo’s campaign driver. We wonder how they can campaign and not discuss it during the work day while conducting the taxpayers’ business. Has the Beshear Administration approved of running that campaign on state time?

Does it sound ethical for one termer to “buy” republican senate seats? Is this a democracy when one person can influence the makeup of an entire Chamber of Kentuckys Congress ?

And one the loyalty side, where are the loyalties of these Republican Senators? Is it with their constituents and party or their back pockets?

T-Storm- you’re catching on. Regardless of which party someone belongs to around here, it’s rare for anyone to care about anything other than how big their bank account is. Whether it’s coal, horseys or health insurance companies (and who knows what other lobbies) running the show, I think you’d be hard pressed to call our state a democracy. Doesn’t matter if it’s a D or an R (probably L and I, too!) in office, you don’t matter unless you’ve got gobs of cash.

Geveden is reportedly taking free tickets to races to track in Sparta and other goodies as well…using the position to benefit himself and his friends. Hear that he and his girlfriend who works in gov office are getting tickets to races and other goodies in exchange for transportation sponsoring events. this is against ethics rules.

Why does Geviden have SLB in his pocket?

    SLB?

It’s not SLB (Steven Lynn Beshear) he has in his pocket. It would be SLB staffer’s (and staffers girl friends) that he has gotten out of trouble that he has in his pockets.

And Muravchick works for Geviden’s Dad at Justice and Public Safety so that just kind of puts a little bow on the whole thing nice and pretty.
