It’s Day 7 of the Golden B.S. Awards in honor of Page One’s second birthday (August 13th!). Ten lucky (unlucky?) winners will receive a fancy pile of golden b.s., pictured at left. You know the drill.
Which elected officials, public officials, candidates, reporters, public figures, et al are absolutely full of it? We need your input!
Each day for the next three days (the end is nigh!) we’ll announce a new award category for which you may submit an unlimited number of nominees.
Previous Categories:
- Day One – Person Responsible for Legislation Requiring the Most Lubricant
- Day Two – Reporter Most Likely to Make You Kick Your Television, Burn Your Newspaper or Toss Your Computer.
- Day Three – Most Constipated Politician – For the Candidate Who Campaigned for Something and Was Counted On to Bring It…. But Couldn’t Produce Shit When the Pressure Was One.
- Day Four – Politician Most Likely to Be Investigated or Indicted in the Next 12 Months.
- Day Five – Worst Example of Total Incompetence From a Local or State Official in an Appointed Post.
- Day Six – Elected Official, Appointee or Contractor Responsible for the Most Flagrant & Vile Abuse of Taxpayer Money.
So make sure you nominate someone for those categories.
After all nominations are received for all announced categories, we’ll announce the winners and promptly send along golden piles of poo to recipients. Let’s make this as scandalous and appropriate as possible.
Today’s category is:

Submit your nomination (this isn’t a popularity contest, your “votes” or seconds aren’t necessarily going to sway anything) – along with your reasoning – in the comments. Keep it funny!

I have two–first Anne N, if she gets a handsome pension for her hears of congress; now add this plum….
then those two at city hall who stayed over & gave up vacation at time of crises etc; it’s not that but they “retired” & are now hired back less than 6 month after “retirement”…

I wish that the idiot governor was eligible for this. After all, he served as AG and as a state legislator many years ago and now he’s back as a pimple on the ass of this state.

Jake, there is a problem–not category that fits the Board of Education who accepted candidates for superintendent clearly not matching their requirements, appointed Berman, paid money to search firm, and refuse to admit the disaster of this appointment–while kids are the ones who suffer. Could we have a special one just for them?

How about giving a joint D & R award? Charlie Borders and Steve Beshear for supposedly being advocates on behalf of the state pension but then when it’s politcally/financially expedient for them, The Governor buys Charlie off with a four year appointment and Charlies accepts!!!
If not, my vote is State Rep Jim Glenn. It’s bad enough when you continue to draw your salary from KCTCS as a professor and at the same time, collect your salary as a legislator, but in his case, he’s costing the equivalent of a TRIPLE DIPPER. He doesn’t work during each spring semester, requiring KCTCS to hire a replacement instructor in his place, thus the state is paying an instructor to teach a class, paying Glenn to not teach a class and paying him to act like a legislator.

How about Jane Driskell and Rick Johnstone?

Bill Schreck – Director of IPL. Schreck was a complete failure as City Director of IPL. When merger came he assumed all the duties of directing the county operations which is a whole lot more complicated than just boarding up urban blight in the old city. He has made a disaster out of Zoning (He fired all the experienced zoning officers in a union busting move), nobody in that department knows what to do anymore, it is all based on Bill’s back room deal.
Property Maintenance is a disaster, Schreck now formally reprimands any inspector who fails to cite the most minor of technical violations, no common sense allowed. He is running 8 months behind and has over a thousand unanswered new complaints.
He is requiring Building Inspectors to be certified as HVAC inspectors in a effort to force experienced workers out so he can replace them with his buddies.
Schrecks labor abuses has been the most vile and disgusting treatment of employees in Metro government. He has absolutely no regard for the public, his employees or the Metro Council. He thinks everything is on the good old boy system (witness Javanon). Look for Schreck to replace Kimberly Bunton as having the worst audit results before year end.

what about all those news stories about state Representative Derrick Graham. He votes on the budget giving teachers raises…he’s a teacher. He votes on legislative pay and retirement…he’s a legislator. Media reports showed he missed school for something like 30-40 days during sessions yet he received full day’s pay. how nice!

Expand the above to include all public employees who are in the legislature. Especially Fat Harry. And John Will.

Sheldon Berman, Ph.D.!!
First dip: Receives $260,000 salary from JCPS for doing maybe $13,000 worth of work.
Second dip: $$$ for travel to fun destinations for conferences and professional development; not paid by JCPS. Added bonus: Gets to take his honey-bunny.
Third (future) dip: $$$ for his connection to Center for Applied Special Technologies (CAST) in MA which sells reading programs. Spoiler alert! Costs millions!
Fourth (future) dip: $$ for Virtual High School’s sales of online learning program to JCPS. He’s connected to VHS, too.
**munches on organic baby carrots**
**falls asleep; poos while sleeping**
**dreams of whacking Berman over the head with 50-pound bag of Purina (TM) Rabbit Chow**

“Travelin’ Man, Catch If You Can”
Another vote for our travelin’ man, Shelly. Those who like to double-dip spread their germs wide and far, e.g., by kissin’ and sharin’ toothbrushes.

I nominate Jamie Link.
He was a non merit Dem working for Patton, then he moved up the non merit chain while working for Fletcher and abused quite a few Democrats, then he moved to Parks and was finally retired/fired by Jim Host
Then along comes Beshear and they are best buddies, One termer put the again Democrat in as Dep Secretay of the Commerce Cabinet even though he did a weak ass job at the Horse
Park. Now Beshear has again promoted/moved Link to head the WEG games, our biggest event since the PGA and we hear nothing.
whats up with the WEG games, big salaries but no info to the public.
I keep hearing 600,000 people are estimated to attend but I think it will be 40,000 who will attend 15 days of events so using Oregon job statistic math, I guess thats 600,000 visitors.

Jamie Link even had a fellow Democrat non merit come back from a 12 month stint in Afghanistan, (serving our wonderful contry) his third tour since World trade center disaster. He did not put him back in the same non merit job he left prior to Afghanistan, he move him to a duty-less job in another agency. After a few months of nothing to do, the military veteran retired.
That pissed off many of his former co-workers and is no way to treat someone coming back from overseas.
But One Termer didn’t seem to mind, he brought Link back and gave him several promotions.
Way to go Beshear!

David Karem. At one point, he was triple dipping….a state legislator’s salary, his waterfront director’s salary and his firm’s personal service contract with the city. Now, hes down to only double dipping.
Honorable mention: Tim Barry. A pension from the city, his mega-salary from the Housing Authority and his wife’s (largely unearned) salary from the City Housing Department. Probably a quarter a million dollars a year from us taxpayers.
Let’s not forget Mike Ward. A congressman’s pension for his two years of service and his wife’s salary and pension (you know, Tina Heavern) drags in fat mike a pretty penny as well.
I retired from city government and they chiseled me out of every dime they could. I guess I should have smooched some keisters before I left.

My vote is David Karem!

Like I said above, there are no votes and it’s not a popularity contest.
But feel free to make nominations and provide reasoning.

David Karem managed to, supposedly, run the Waterfront Development Corportation – which isn’t a “city” agency only because JA wanted Karem to have that job and he couldn’t be a city employer and a legislator at the same time, be a legislator and be a partner in a law firm, and be involved in all sorts of other things. There aren’t enough hours in the day to do all that, and earn pensions in two of those jobs – and then SUE because he didn’t think he got enough.
