This one’s easy. Steve Beshear. He campaigned on two things: 1.) I’m not Ernie Fletcher (no, Steve, you’re a pretty damned pathetic imitation of the fine gentleman and good governor your predecessor was no matter what Stumbo and Crawford-Sutherland thought); and 2.) CASINO GAMBLING!!
Where are the slots and blackjack tables, Gov. Kentucky Central?
2 rick // Jul 29, 2009 at 2:12 pm
I think we may have our first landslide. Beshear, many times on the campaign trail, said all it took was some leadership to get gaming going, then when given the opportunity, failed and failed and failed.

John Yarmouth. Obama gives millions for keeping cops on the street….Louisville gets zero.

Doug Hawkins

Jerry Abramson et al

Beshear, for the epic casino gaming fail.
Stumbo in his speaker election, for same.
Daniel Mongiardo in the senate primary for only raising 300K in Q2.
Bruce Lunsford, for refusing to hit McConnell for his ties to China even though Mitch was on TV saying he killed veterans with his cold, bare, hands.
Daniel Mongiardo in the LtG role, for no-showing eHealth meetings.
David Boswell, for accepting the Democratic nomination and then refusing to run as one.
Hrm. This list is long (thatswhatshesaid). Perhaps we are discovering why Kentucky is so totally fucked.

I was going to say Beshear even before checking out the other entries. And this is for the expanded gambling matter, obviously.
7 TJ // Jul 29, 2009 at 2:37 pm
Another for Beshear.
8 jake // Jul 29, 2009 at 2:45 pm
Pretty Patty: I’m not sure who John “Yarmouth” is? But if you mean “Yarmuth”? Then you’re just making shit up. Congress didn’t have anything to do with the grants law enforcement agencies had to apply for.
But thanks for the spin.
9 AB // Jul 29, 2009 at 2:58 pm
Such a hard category with so many politicians deserving of the bullshit, but Beshear (aka Mr. Burns) has got to be the winner. He holds the highest state office and totally screwed up the gaming affair – the main plank in his platform. Then, for an encore, he picks McCheese to be his next running mate because of his great economic giveaway…….er, development skills. He’s a slam dunk!
Pretty Patty, we can’t hang the COPS thing on Yarmuth (see Jake, I’m opinionated, but fair). The city applied, but got passed over for the grant for some reason (?).
10 jake // Jul 29, 2009 at 3:05 pm
P.S. My comment about Congress not having to do with it is also meant as a criticism. It’s a shame our elected officials haven’t worked to steer stimulus funds appropriately and an even bigger shame that no elected official ever thinks about law enforcement.

“Discrimination Against Whom?”
My vote goes to Daniel Mongiardo, who said, “I will always stand up to discrimination as a U. S. Senator.” Unless you are gay . . . lesbian . . . transgendered. May Jack Conway get the seat that Daniel craves. I trust Jack to be more non-discriminatory.

Steve Beshear,
Harry Moberly,
Gregg Stumbo,
Larry Clark,

When you nominate someone – gotta give an example.
14 andy // Jul 29, 2009 at 3:54 pm
Don’t forget Beshear’s promised $150 mil efficiency study. And that he would use tax increases as a last resort.
15 Cauley Funds // Jul 29, 2009 at 4:01 pm
Jake, if you give out Golden Poos for ties on this one, you’re gonna need a bigger truck. Steve 5:27 Beshear in a romp.
16 Sirico // Jul 29, 2009 at 4:15 pm
Bruce Lunsford. I thought he had a good opportunity to unseat McConnell until his entire campaign went M.I.A.
17 Pretty Patty // Jul 29, 2009 at 4:21 pm
Dear Jake, I said Yarmouth and that’s what I meant. JY makes great speeches about how his pal Obama is going to save us all, yet at crunch time JY can’t bring home the pork chops.
18 Yellow Dog // Jul 29, 2009 at 4:23 pm
Wow, so many to choose from.
Beshear, definitely, for all the reasons mentioned. Has he kept a single campaign promise? My personal favorite: swearing to restore strong ethics, then refusing to fire Jonathan Miller for violating personnel laws.
Boswell absolutely for exactly what Um wrote: accepting the Democratic nomination and then refusing to run as one.
Is it possible to shoehorn Fletcher in here for claiming there was a 250 million surplus when what appeared on Inauguration Day was a $500 million deficit?
19 AB // Jul 29, 2009 at 4:35 pm
Can’t be Lunsford – rule should be you have to get elected at least once to count as a real politician not just an egomaniac trying to buy that dubious title.
20 Freedom100 // Jul 29, 2009 at 4:36 pm
Another vote for Beshear for failing to keep campaign promises and for promising strong ethics and accountability and then picking the Mayor thank God no longer for life, the anthesis of strong ethics and accountability.
21 I am just saying... // Jul 29, 2009 at 4:56 pm
One of Beshear’s campaign slogans was “BOLD LEADERSHIP FOR KENTUCKY”
There is boldness from the Gov. He has run the administration with one thing in mind, “don’t do anything !!! ”
It usually works like this… We’ll support (fill in the blank – i.e. gaming ) – but not too much. We wouldn’t want run the risk of accomplishing something and making a someone angry.
As far as leadership goes he has given what little leadership there is to Hayes, Edelen, Gabbert, Miller, and the Moores – who are lining their own pockets or trying to set up their own political futures. – None of whom supported him in ’07 and all of whom will be the first rats off the ship when it starts to go down in late summer 2011.
22 cbcard // Jul 29, 2009 at 5:17 pm
Got to suggest two pols depending on groundrules. If we are talking about facial expressions it has to be Mitch who always looks like he needs a case of Exlax. But if we are talking about being backed up and super full of it I would have to go with David Williams.
23 Jeff Noble // Jul 29, 2009 at 5:37 pm
I’d like to respond to Pretty Patty’s obviously uninformed attacks on someone he calls Yarmouth. I’m not doing so in as any official response from Congressman Yarmuth’s office, as I have no official role with that office.
However, his statement should not go unchallenged. A review of recent articles in the Courier-Journal tells a different story than what Patty wrote above. Similarly a Google Search reveals a number of dollars brought home on behalf of the local police department specifically in bills sponsored or supported by Congressman Yarmuth. Patty somehow missed them.
The most recent was just a few days ago, the HIDTA program. The amount was small – $38,000.00. Other programs brought considerably higher amounts to the LMPD. $375,000.00 for computers. $492,000.00 for LMPD data terminals. $666,000.00 in Byrne Memorial Funds for targetted programs within the LMPD. The are just a few of the results I quickly found. No doubt there are others.
There might be politicians who’ve made promises and haven’t kept them. With regard to the LMPD, John Yarmuth is not one of them. He has delivered quite a bit. And when the LMPD has these dollars for programs, that frees them up for the most important work of keeping cops on the streets.
24 Sirico // Jul 29, 2009 at 5:40 pm
AB, go back and re-read. B.L. was a candidate for office (Pg1: Which elected officials, public officials, candidates, reporters, public figures, et al are absolutely full of it?).
Jake, I have a few questions:
Will there be a Golden Poo Ceremony?
Will there be pics of the winners (?) accepting their Poo Award?
Is the Golden Poo Award to be scented?
How much is the Golden Poo Award worth on the open market?
lol!
25 themanchesters // Jul 29, 2009 at 5:41 pm
I nominate David Williams for killing the expanding gambling bill. How about letting it get out of committee so that all our elected officials have a chance to represent their constituents. Mitch McConnell runs a close second – for being a tool during the Sotomayor hearings.
26 AB // Jul 29, 2009 at 7:12 pm
I’ve gotta defend my candidate Beshear against the growing Williams movement (pun intended). Williams was actually successful in his obstruction (too easy) of Beshear, so I think that makes a stronger case for Beshear being more deserving of the poo award.
By the way, the poo award looks more like dogshit than bullshit. Thus, perhaps the poo award should be flexible in terms of animal – in this case, Beshear has got the chicken category covered.
27 jake // Jul 29, 2009 at 7:33 pm
Noble: Heck, they could just do a quick search of this site and determine that John has brought home our fair share – woah more than Anne Northup ever brought.
Sirico: An actual ceremony is a possibility, but most of the folks who win most likely want me dead as it is.
Would love to get pictures of people accepting their respective awards – and it may happen in some cases. But see above. That whole wanting me dead thing may not help when it comes to photography.
Scent of cheap chinese plastic!
I’d say they’re worth about $25 on the open market. (Just an estimation – I mean, I know some pay woah more for gold-colored fake poop on a rope, but…)
28 overopm // Jul 29, 2009 at 7:51 pm
1. Chief White gets my vote going against 95% of his department’s Police Officers urging him to investigate Jackie Hollingsworth (also a LMPD). (See LMPD.com) I guess her hands weren’t the only ones in the honey hole. What an embarassment to 95% of the good cops.
2. Charles Cash with Planning and Zoning for knowingly and willingly operating as just another tennacle of the Mayors. He is a spineless person who sold his soul many terms ago. Planning and Zoning Board Appointees…. Please wake up. You serve as appointed potted plants who really have no say when it comes to pet project s (no offense to the majority).
3. I would mention a third, but I’m sure his award is already in the mail by now. It’s a shame those in Frankfort have no clue what the voting public thinks in Louisville. I guess they are banking on all the money to cover their bets.
29 Honorable Mention // Jul 29, 2009 at 7:54 pm
I know the Party Boy has been out of the news lately- but I do think that His Honor Clay Foreman deserves some kind of gold or platinum poo for all his antics. He has been keeping a low profile lately because of his bid for re-election. Make no mistake that he is the worst candidate for public office in Kentucky. Please vote for Mr. Domestic Violence, for the shiny crap award. :-)

Apparently to bring White to Louisville, Jerry Abramson offered as an incentive a secret deal having to do with pension money. I followed jake’s link etc…
So did JA not make a promise to be transparent?
Not sure if this qualifies or not, but can JA be possibly impeached???

Jake:
Fine, I’ll play by the rules, even though to do so would be redundant…
Steve Beshear : Casinos
Harry Moberly: Casinos and Schools
Gregg Stumbo: Casinos Schools Horseys
Larry Clark: Casinos, Schools, Horseys, and everything else…
34 Conservative // Jul 29, 2009 at 10:02 pm
“Is it possible to shoehorn Fletcher in here for claiming there was a 250 million surplus when what appeared on Inauguration Day was a $500 million deficit?”
No, because that deficit only appeared when Beshear needed it to prop up his plea for more gambling.
Beshear has tried every way in the world to pay back the people who bankrolled his campaign. First he tried the state budget, that didn’t work. Then he tried the horse industry, that didn’t work. What will he try next? That we need casino gambling to pay John Calipari’s salary?
35 Garlic Oasis // Jul 29, 2009 at 10:49 pm
Ok, I’m curious. At 3:05 pm you (Jake) wrote that “its an even bigger shame that no elected official ever thinks about law enforcement.” Then Mr. Noble points out all the money Yarmuth has sent to law enforcement. Then you follow up at 7:33 pm by implying anyone reading your blog should already know about Yarmuth’s work. Which is it? Does Yarmuth ever think about law enforcement as an elected official or not? You can’t have it both ways.
36 jake // Jul 30, 2009 at 7:16 am
Nice spin job/attempt at putting words into my mouth.
John Yarmuth might be the only person who has done something for law enforcement in the Commonwealth – which is why I commented on what Jeff had to say.
37 bigdaddy // Jul 30, 2009 at 10:27 am
Gotta be Beshear. Ran on the casino issue just like Wilkinson did on the Lottery issue, but couldn’t deliver
38 John Houck // Jul 30, 2009 at 11:25 am
Jake if you honestly believe that Yarmuth has been responsible for more funding coming to Louisville than Anne Northup, you have absolutely zero facts. Northup was a member of the Appropriations Committee and brough in a significant amount each year, millions and millions more than Yarmuth is able to direct. Dont believe me, call the countless non-profits throughout the community who are suffering as a result of John’s wonderful leadership. Just do some research before you pop off.
39 jake // Jul 30, 2009 at 11:31 am
Yeah, the old drunkard really brought a lot home, didn’t she? When she wasn’t spending hundreds of dollars on beverages at KT’s and Ditto’s.
I encourage you to call John’s office. If you think he’s brought home less than her, you’re sorely mistaken.
This isn’t the place for Northup spin. I hate that hateful bitch and she will never be spoken of in a polite manner here. So take it elsewhere.
40 Kyle // Jul 30, 2009 at 11:57 am
I’m definitely with the Beshear crowd with regard to all his budget promises and then he can’t even deliver anything, even after a $600,000 special session.
But I’d also like to nominate Barack Obama and many of the Dem members of Congress for not being able to get shit done because they’re a bunch of pussies and seem to placate the radical right rather than push for real reform. Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell: still exists…..Health care reform: not gonna happen….Transparency: Don’t even think about it…..State secret privileges: meet the new boss, same as the old boss.
Politicians in general have me so damn sick right now. Special interest groups and corporations run us and will continue to do so until someone nuts up and does something.
41 jake // Jul 30, 2009 at 11:58 am
Uh, let’s stick with folks actually IN Kentucky.
42 E // Jul 30, 2009 at 12:37 pm
Stumbo easily.
Even promising over a billion in pork projects he couldn’t deliver a convincing enough majority of votes for video game slots to even give the senate cause for concern.
43 jake // Jul 30, 2009 at 1:35 pm
Once again, Ed, you’re slipping into the insane-o territory.
Greg Stumbo did not campaign on gambling.
As a matter of fact, he told the governor not to push for slots – and he did anyway. While he did loosely push it in the State House, it’s disingenuous for you to suggest he campaigned on gambling and billions in pork.
Now, Steve Beshear on the other hand…
44 Conservative // Jul 30, 2009 at 11:52 pm
Although I believe Obama is in WAAAAY over his head, I must say that sometimes these far-left politicians actually get elected to office and then get a crash course in reality, and they learn that they can’t do everything they want, or they realize that the things they’d planned to do are very dumb ideas. Obama’s getting an education on national security, slowly but surely.
45 EdenSprings // Aug 3, 2009 at 8:01 pm
Dear le gardien de but: No, JA cannot be impeached. It is impossible to impeach a divine emissary of the gods, dontcha know? (Really, he can’t be impeached. When you create your own merged government, you tend to leave things like a method for your removal out of the fine print.)
46 AreYouKidding // Aug 4, 2009 at 12:46 pm
Beshear tried to pull a Wilkinson ala lottery-style promise on Gaming.
But when he dusted off his political chops (from a file cabinet labeled “1985″) the citizens of KY witnessed a man bringing a ballpeen hammer to a gunfight.
He’s learned a few lessons, but he’ll never have back the power capital that he wasted during that first General Assembly.
Utter failure do-nothing of a governor.
