We couldn’t agree more with the Bowling Green Daily News editorial board today:
In the wake of embarrasing revelations concerning salaries and spending, the Kentucky League of Cities is now claiming it is not subject to the state’s open records/open meetings law.
What a farce.

This abrupt decision appears to be a matter of sour grapes by the league’s president, Sylvia Lovely, and its board as a result of recent articles in the Lexington Herald-Leader that detailed the expenses and salaries of top officials.

It appears that Lovely and the other top officials have been living quite well and didn’t like how this was perceived when it appeared in print.

The KLC is supposed to be looking out for the cities and taxpayers of Kentucky, but it appears it is looking out for itself while thumbing its nose at the public’s right to know what goes on within the organization.
A 1993 opinion from the state Attorney General’s Office found that a very similar organization, the Kentucky Association of Counties, was a public agency because it received at least 25 percent of its revenue from public sources.
The Herald-Leader recently reported that KACo’s top five executives have spent nearly $600,000 on travel, entertainment and other expenses over the past two years. KACo Executive Director Bob Arnold received $178,000 compensation, plus a car and country club membership.
Why bring this up again? Primarily because we’re swamped looking through documents from the University of Louisville and also because we’re still ready to throw up over the hundreds of thousands of dollars wasted by Sylvia Lovely and pals. Why do they still have jobs, exactly?
You should be outraged!

It’s also time to go after the misspent public funds appropriated and syphoned to Univ. of Louisville as Ramsey became President of the institution. See how much stuck to Loving’s long sticky slender fingers and worked its way back into Fletch’s campaign.
This is the next place for the Herald and its Leader to investigate.
