REALLY big news! Auditor Crit Luallen’s office just announced that the Kentucky League of Cities and the Kentucky Association of Counties will be audited.
“Because of recent newspaper articles and specific concerns brought to my office, the Kentucky State Auditor intends to audit KLC and KACo,” Luallen said. “This office has a responsibility to Kentucky citizens to ensure accountability for their tax dollars.
“In these tough economic times, it’s more important than ever that these two agencies, which are funded by the public and governed by elected officials, have full transparency and thorough scrutiny. Anything less would be a disservice to the cities and counties they serve.”
“It’s clear by the examples of extravagant spending and lack of transparency that these agencies and their boards need the necessary tools to fulfill their responsibilities to the taxpayers,” Luallen said. “Through our audits, my office will not only help answer the many questions that have been raised but also provide specific recommendations to improve financial oversight going forward.”
Luallen notified Connie Lawson, president of the Kentucky League of Cities board and Mike Foster, president of the Kentucky Association of Counties board via letters today.
This is going to be juicy!
Can’t wait.

Why hasn’t Crit done this before now? Does it really take the H-L articles to get her attention?

Well, I guess Crit’s department doesn’t have any other work to do; they’re just sitting around on their hands, waiting for the H-L or C-J to tell them what to do.
Not.
I, for one, am pleased to see this. Crit’s team will do a thorough, professional job, and these two organizations will hopefully get a complete house-cleaning in the process.
Teachers are buying supplies out of their own pockets, while KACo’s leadership is buying strippers with the state’s money. Time to strip the leadership of their jobs.

everyone should be calling their county judge’s office and telling them it’s time for Bob Arnold and his crew at KACO to go. really. counties throughout the state are paying county dollars to this organization and we’ve seen this week where it’s going…we need new leadership for our county organization and we need it now!
