Hey, state employees in Kentucky! You should consider giving back to your neighbors in need through the Kentucky Employees Charitable Campaign.

Your contribution (if you can afford it) benefits organizations like the Christian Appalachian Project, Community Health Charities, Easter Seals Kentucky, Prevent Child Abuse Kentucky, United Way of Kentucky and the WHAS Crusade for Children.

Have you looked to see what organizations are supported by the KECC? Do you know if any of them are “homophobic,” as you often put it.
I do know that some of them are Christian organizations, e.g. the Christian Appalachian Project. I am not christian and do not want my charitable contributions to benefit such organizations. Therefore, I do not contribute to any “umbrella” type charity, but instead make donations to specific organizations that I am confortable with.
The same analysis would apply to United Way.

If you contact the organizations directly, they can usually set aside your donation to a specific cause if you wish.
Let’s say you’re giving $150 per year. They can note that $150 (in your name) should specifically be directed to whatever organization.
I’ve given to United Way in the past under the agreement that my donation would not be used to benefit Boy Scouts of America.

My understanding of the state campaign is that you can give to whatever nonprofit — as long as its a qualifying 501(c)(3) — you wish.

Jake is right. Tax deductible contributions can be directed to any charity. KECC funds charitable projects in each of our Counties. KECC has helped thousands of Kentuckians. Everyone can help in some way.

Thanks for the info. I have not given to the United Way for the same reason, BSA. I would look into the designation of particular groups. Would make contributions easier if I can have them payroll deducted.

To show how good and generous state employees are, watch how many hundred$ of thousand$ of dollar$ they will donate even though their salaries have gone backwards since 2003.
Good job state workers. No matter what our elected officials put on you or what anybody says about you, you definitely come through time and again for your fellow citizens in need for our Commonwealth.

Oops, Common man, you can payroll deduct your chairitable contributions and you can specifically designate which charity gets your money.

If you knew how much time state employees spend, on the clock, doing stuff for KECC, you’d have second thoughts about your ringing endorsement, given your past history of railing about state vehicle abuse. I’d venture to say that the state loses more money to KECC involvement by employees during work hours than it does to vehicle misuse. Sure it’s for the proverbial good cause, but every hour a state employee spends doing something for KECC is an hour they get paid for not working.

You are talking about a few state employees. I’m talking about over 33,000 workers. I’m talking big picture.
But I haven’t railed about state vehicles for a long time. Just like any complaining about wasteful state goverment spending, its a waste of time! Glad you remembered pal.
