If somebody really knows about the back-room deals made at City Hall (i.e. other than The Mayor and Bruce Traughber) could grow a couple and help to let the light in on same please do it sooner than later. Years of more of the same is possible and the economic grave being dug for fruitless developments will continue. In addition, where are the investigative reporters of old, whose tenacity and lack of fear of having their access cut off ,helped them get to the "bottom" of issues/stories.

Jake, how do you define "near" -- there's no homes or apartments to speak of that are what I'd call close to the bridge. But as someone who uses that bridge regularly, coming and going, I have never thought it made sense to cram something that large right there. I have long wondered about the traffic plan, and I see they may close some of second st. permanently. That worries me.

For the record, and it's just my memory, I think JA favored the LWC site initially but acquiesced when U of L said they absolutely would not play there. The unexplained reasons for U of L's stance were the subject of some of the pointed questions Billy Reed raised while writing for LEO.

The whole thing has always been odd to me. Those who know, ain't talkin'.

Mark H (not hebert)
You should talk to the cop that abramson was with when they captured the (mulch bandit)
The cop wanted to let him go with a scare but Jerri thought it would be great pub foor him if they arrested him.
Then when the cop took Jerri home the cop says abramson acted like a happy homo jumpingup and down telling his faux wife I did it!! I did IT!! I just got my first.... whatever that word is when an officer gets his first arrest. Anyone know it?? It is the word jerri will recognize and realize this story is true.

Just so we're clear, tons of folks live near the Second Street bridge. And the Blue family is working to re-develop that block of Main Street right beside it.

Aaaand....

Even more people live by the 65 bridge. The Harbours (Jeffersonville, IN) stands right beside the loudest and busiest portion of the bridge.

(But your point is a solid one)

Look, connections (not the gay bar) aren't necessarily conspiracies. Most business ventures are the result of connections. While I think Cordish has McCheese in their pocket (and how that has harmed local businesses really sucks), the development of the arena on the LG&E site vs. the LWC site does make long term sense. A venue like the arena with its somewhat unique public financing/bonding options make it one of the few projects that could overcome the barrier created by the old LG&E infrastructure. Plus, the arena will not be used every night and the proximity to the 2nd St. bridge is a deterrent to many projects (anyone want to live next to it?). A more commercial venue at the LWC site is closer to the core of downtown and has far less barriers to development - a much better fit for a multi purpose live/work/play project (just not a clone of 4th Street Live - we don't need any more Coyote Ugly clone bars).

Ah...... and the Wayside hotel is where we'll house the people who lose their houses gambling at Jer's Circus Crapulus Casino. (Right after they get their last loan from Gus Goldsmith).

And of course, the JCTC will be offering courses in blackjack dealing.

I'm very sorry Mr. Hebert if there was any confusion. I'm sure you wouldn't want Jerry to think you were calling him the Major of Mulch....Could make for some uncomfortable future meetings!

However, I stand by the nickname since he did make that daring citizen arrest of the Brightside mulch bandit a few years back.

i'm not sure how this conversation got to gay bars, but as a very regular frequenter of them i think the city block would be great spot, since i also spent a lot of time there to at coyotes. also the connection has gotten way to cliqiy for a lot of people. i dont remember it but i hear older gays talk about murphys a lot. we dont have a murphys to go to. we should have a plain old bar to go to, get drunk, and maybe an altercation now and then like a real bar. how bout that? back to the topic, i think beshear should have his coming out party for jerry at connections since the name is so apropriate.

I think that City Block would be a fantastic location for a Gay club.Maybe that's something that Mayor Jerry could get behind, why maybe he could find another $1.8 million to fund one at City Block, I'm sure he'd have no objection to that .
Why that would even be a great test to the validity to prove :if the City would support & provide a venue for alternative lifestyles entertainment, with the same comparative financial support that they have given the clubs at 4th street, If the City would fund & substain a competative faculity to the Connection, you know, DIRECT competative dillution to the Connection, with free money to build it and run it . It would be very interesting to see the effect of what would happen . Do you think the Connection would claim FOUL!......and if such an operator was to surface & be qualified would Mayor Happy Pants be warm & fuzzy to that deal.
Hell the Gay Community should be pissed all the straight places are getting all the $$$$, not to mention the Black Community hasn't gotten any spiffs either?
