Is the plan to use slot machine revenue to repair or rebuild run-down schools in Kentucky really a big surprise to the Governor and others?
Gov. Steve Beshear said Wednesday he has no immediate objection to House Speaker Greg Stumbo’s proposal to use revenue from video-lottery terminals to improve or replace rundown schools.
Beshear said he has spoken with Stumbo about the proposal.
“I just received a draft of those changes, haven’t really had a chance to go through them all in detail, but I haven’t seen anything that I won’t be able to support so far,” the governor said.
So, is it?
Because, well, here’s what we shared with you on Monday:
Adam Edelen and several others assured me on Saturday night that there are enough votes for gambling to pass. Then several lobbyists and big whigs from organized labor told me that there aren’t enough votes. So which will it be? Only time will tell.
They also told us that “something has happened” to make the gambling bill more palatable. So we can only wonder if it was the education bit.
