It’s true. Louisville isn’t the only city struggling with Cordish Companies.
How bout these apples?
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) – Hip-hop performer DJ Jazzy Jeff stormed off the stage during a weekend performance in Kansas City, saying venue managers did not like the type of music he was playing.
Officials with the Power & Light District say they just wanted the production crew to turn down the music because it was too loud for the sound system.

Concertgoers said Jazzy Jeff was playing hip-hop and pop songs before abruptly ending his set. Then rapper Skillz, who was serving as Jazzy Jeff’s hype man, yelled out, “They won’t let us play hip-hop, y’all.”

In a Kansas City Star column, Stephens told a reporter that Jazzy Jeff’s set “attracted the wrong kind of element.” Jazzy Jeff told the columnist that the “element” reference seemed to be directed at blacks. Baltimore-based Cordish Co., which operates the Power & Light District, received negative attention last year for its dress code banning hip-hop styles such as sagging pants and oversize jewelry.
Stephens says it’s not about race, and that the DJ’s hip-hop reputation was the reason he was invited.
Isn’t that nice? We seem to recall a certain Cordish development in Louisville (*cough* Fourth Street Live! *cough*) having similar problems early on when it tried to keep out a certain “element” (non-whites).
So. We’ve got an Abramson-backed monopoly that doesn’t just suck hundreds of millions of dollars out of our pockets, it’s possibly pushing racism and upholding ridiculous stereotypes?
Ruh ro.
This is why Louisville and Kentucky can’t have nice things.

I can’t help but wonder if this Cordish project is taxpayer subsidized as is *cough* Fourth Street Live *cough*…putting the squeeze on locally owned businesses?

What the hell did they expect from Jeff? It’s like CBS being surprised when they let MTV produce the Super Bowl halftime show, and we wind up seeing Janet Jackson’s boob. Give e a flippin’ break.

She should have showed that boob twenty years earlier. Instead, we just saw a poorly maintained, over-the-hill boob with a stupid looking nipple ring.

No big surprises here really. I first started bringing Cordish under a microscope myself in 2008. One of the articles I have done includes links to other cities having rpoblems with Cordish and can be viewed here:

Keep up the good work and pressure on this Mayor and Cordish Jake. We must stop this idiot somehow.

Maybe Jerry should have DJ Jazzy perform for him at 4th St. He could do his famous “Ham it Up” routine like he does with the Monarchs. That should get the Black Votes. The way he’s pooped on the Black community , it baffles me how any African American could vote for him.
If they had a DJ Jazzy event at 4th St and promoted it effectively the Mayor would be scared to even go in the joint! Maybe Jim Porters could sponsor it with all the promoters it uses. Hell it’s not making any money with the crowd they draw now so why not invite the people who LIVE downtown?
