Jake’s still off in the land of no Internets. Really. There are places, right here in the Bluegrass State, where it’s not possible to reel in an online connection.
So here’s some stuff that’s going on while he’s gone…
Yes, He Really Said That: Take a look at the transcript from Mitch McConnell’s appearance on Fox News Sunday. First, he never answers the question posed by Chris Wallace. But he tried to be nice about it. [Fox News Sunday]
Henry’s Attitude: Catch this quote from Steve Henry in Saturday’s Herald-Leader: “If they want to fine us, they’ll fine us.” Sounds like a man in denial about how deep the poop is stacking up around him. Jake will have more on this. We know that. [Herald-Leader]
Blame it on a Human: At the Louisville Arena Authority meeting this morning, officials blamed the April 27 concrete collapse on human error involving the Indianapols contractor doing the work. [Courier]
Ramsey’s Gamble: U of L prez Jim Ramsey brought up the need for expanded gambling in a radio interview after the school’s trustees recommended the maximum 5 percent tuition increase. Oh, and the faculty isn’t getting any raises. [WFPL]
Blind Eye to the Numbers: Greg Stumbo and David Williams say they’re not hearing any complaints about the new state tax on alcohol, even though the numbers have bourbon industry leaders saying ‘I told you so’ after sales figures were released for sales in April. [Herald-Leader]
Obama and Notre Dame: Read the speech for yourself, but reviews of President Obama’s speech at Notre Dame are overwhelmingly positive. Very Presidential. [HuffPo]

The President’s commencement address at ND was amazing. It was an absolute pleasure to graduate this year and hear him. The way he seamlessly moved from humor to serious topics was amazing. Even when a few people started yelling at him, one of them in the section above mine, he kept his cool and continued to emphasize respecting those with different views and working toward common ground.

I really can’t wait for the inevitable Tasering/beatdown of one of these angry old white men who only now have managed to muster actionable outrage against their President. Can’t wait to hear how Obama’s America has become a police state. Can’t wait to hear about the unconstitutional suppression of freedom of speech. Tingling in anticipation of seeing an old Opus Dei getting his skull cracked for “defending his faith” against a weakly pro-choice president. I am amazed at the Catholic Church’s priorities and hypocrisies when it comes to interfering in the secular political world.

The Catholic Church proves again how irrelevant and out of touch it is. That scrambling sound you hear is the 99% of married Catholic women running to get their birth control pills when the Pope says birth control is against church doctrine. Can you say two-faced?

“Absolute pleasure.” “Amazing.” Rock Star Obama’s fans continue to over dose. The man’s speech writers keep churning them out, but that doesn’t mean much. You don’t really think Obama sits on Air Force One writing his speeches on the back of an envelope ala Lincoln, do you? But you are right about the Church this time. They are so desparate for Obama’s help in bringing in millions of illegals that they actually bit their tongues on the right to life. This Pope is almost as bad as Obama in bowing down before the fads of the day. Maybe next time—in both cases. Problem is, by then so much of the world’s population will think this approach and rock star “leadership” are “the way it always has been.” Sad.
