Rumors From the Frankfort Water Cooler

April 29th, 2009 · 7 Comments

  • Remember when Bob Damron, Larry Clark, Greg Stumbo and Rocky Adkins all declared that they would stand up to David Williams? All that huffing and puffing went out the window this week when they agreed to support a Williams campaign promise. They allowed King David to split the interim committee of Agriculture & Natural Resources into separate committees. Now David Givens and Jim Gooch have total authority.
  • Governor Steve Beshear plans to meet with House Leadership (and possibly David Williams) this Thursday. We hear Beshear plans to discuss the state of our economy and will reveal his plans for any special legislative session this summer.
  • Jennifer Moore continues to tell Democrats around the state that she plans to run for Secretary of State. Meanwhile, Democratic leaders outside of Steve Beshear’s machine are preparing to support another well-known candidate if Jennifer actually jumps in the race.
  • Rumor also has it that Chad Aull plans to move to Owensboro to run for David Boswell’s State Senate seat when Boswell runs again for Congress.

Chad would make a great State Senator… unfortunately he is not old enough to run in ’10. He would only be 28 at the time of swearing in, and turning 29 later that January…

    State House?

You’re right. Tommy Thompson’s House seat makes much more sense (since there are rumors Tommy will be Beshear’s LG). But I was just passing along the rumor as I’d heard it dozens and dozens of times.

You’re right. That’s also the cooler talk all over Frankfort.

It’s a shame that Aull will be too young to run for Boswell’s seat. Western Kentucky is missing out on the chance to elect a hardworker that could take the ball and get things done for a valuable part of the state.

If Aull does ever decide to make a run at public office, our state will gaining a bright and tireless civic leader.

Isn’t is strange that you only have to be 25-years old to run for U.S. Congress and 30-years old to run for KY Senate???

It is bizarre that one must be 30 years of age to run for and hold the office of State Senator. This leaves the best potential candidates siting on the sidelines. Such is the case with President of the Kentucky chapter of Young Democrats of America, Chad Aull. He has everything it takes to succeed. He is far more aware of the issues facing Kentuckians than any future potential candidate I’ve met. Just as importantly (if not more so), he has the kind of “Clintonesque” charisma to win, and to remain in office once he does win. Anyone who knows him will tell you that Chad is a natural leader, unafraid to take on tough battles in behalf of KY families. It is my hope that he will remain in the public arena and lead wherever he can. Beyond that, it is my hope that he will serve in some elected office. As someone suggested above, perhaps the State House? State House now, State Senate later, and from there, who knows? Kentuckians should not lose the kind of representatation Chad could offer due to arbitrary age limits.
