Mongiardo Campaign Kicked Diane Brumback Out

April 29th, 2009 · 5 Comments

Why did Daniel Mongiardo’s campaign kick Diane Brumback out of his northern Kentucky event last night?

I received a blanket email from the campaign about tonight’s event which you can read below. I scheduled a meeting at the site so that I could attend Daniel’s gig after finishing up.

Read this – I mean it’s a damn blanket email to people!

-SNIP-

Daniel continued talking and I continued taking notes.

But things go completely downhill when Mongiardo introduces his pollster. The guy is getting ready to show some slide presentation and BAM! That bald-headed finance guy comes over to me AGAIN and says that I have “to stop taking notes immediately.” So I said, “You’re asking me to leave?” And he says, “No, you don’t have to leave but you can’t take notes.” I told him that I was there covering this event but he said that I couldn’t.

So, I gathered my stuff and said, “Fine, I’ll just leave then and you can read about it.”

And out I went!

Now, to say I’m royally pissed off is putting it mildly. To say I will work as hard as I can to make certain Mongiardo is defeated is an understatement. To say that this is exactly what I needed to get fired up about politics again is absolutely the truth!!

What on earth could Daniel Mongiardo have to hide? What was so terrible that it couldn’t be noted by Diane? Are Mongiardo’s internal numbers so terrible that they have to hide them?

    Diane Brumback is so weird.

    ?

She’s no more weird than me or anyone else I’ve ever met.

It’s not a non-story. Mongiardo and his crew knew Diane was there – they invited her and the rest of the public. It was not noted to be confidential or a private event. No where in the invite was it referred to as an off-the-record meeting. The only time Diane was made aware was about 30 minutes into the event, after she’s already met with Daniel and after everyone had seen her recording and taking notes – out in the open.

And no, according to the Mongiardo staffers I’ve spoken with, Diane did not throw a “hissy fit.”

Weird? I’ve been called a lot of things but never weird.

And it is correct – no “hissy fit” was thrown by me. It’s not my style.

After giving the situation some more thought, the whole thing was just strange. I mean, come on. Mongiardo had to be introduced to several people who came to this thing so it’s not like these folks were a previously organized group. After all, I got the email. Like hundreds of others who received that email, I’m in a database as a Democrat in NKY.

And why the big production of acting like top secret strategies were going to be discussed. Anyone involved in campaigns know exactly where and how vital information is released. It’s certainly not at a public event.

And finally to answer several emails suggesting that I was there doing Jake’s bidding, you’re dead wrong. I had informed him that I was going to support Daniel Mongiardo….that was until last night.

Self-important people who tell journalists, bloggers, or ordinary people to stop taking notes at a public event are just asking for problems. Like, winding up ridiculed by anyone reading this story.

I’m still a little on the fence in this race — not because I’m carrying water for Mongiardo, but because I’m wondering about Conway’s viability across the state. HOWEVER — too many more episodes like this (and others), and jumping off that fence will be easier and easier.

What WAS that bald-headed guy thinking? And, who was it — Joe Graviss (Friends for Daniel Mongiardo), or Robert Kellerman (Daniel Mongiardo for US Senate)?
