Oh Snap Monday! Big Conway News Today

April 13th, 2009 · 13 Comments

Have you heard the spin from the homophobic campaign of Daniel Mongiardo? Kim Geveden and his cohorts are labeling Jack Conway as the anti-christ for refusing to discriminate against anybody. They’re saying he’s too much of a city boy. Too inexperienced (despite his decade and a half in public service). The spin is just hilarious at this point. It’ll get even louder from at least one bigoted redneck later this evening– shortly after Conway’s 4:30 P.M. press conference at the Ali Center. So stay tuned.

And on a related note to all of the Paultards: You can’t vote in a Democratic primary, so stop foaming at the mouth. Rand Paul– if he officially enters the race– won’t be on the ballot until November 2010. And then? Get real. He’s considered a moonbat in Kentucky. Nice try, though.

Wow. People really do believe everything Rush Limbaugh spews at them. [Bowling Green Daily News]

It’s hilarious that media outlets are still alleging there were long, drawn-out talks between Jack Conway, Crit Luallen and Ben Chandler about who would run for U.S. Senate. The only discussion was about when Jack would enter the race. Everyone (every single one of you reading these words) knew Jack would enter the race. [The Hill]

War expert (that’s what draft-dodgers call themselves) Mitch McConnell visited Iraq and says everything is puppies and rainbows. So now we can pull out because the Republicans aren’t in control? [C-J]

Ugh. Somebody fix taxes. The estate tax and everything else. And somebody make Governor Steve Beshear realize that extreme tax reform is a major priority. Just not in the Republican sense of the rich paying less taxes. Eff that. [NY Times]

Really, when will we begin to examine real tax reform? [Ronnie Ellis]

Congressional Quarterly noticed that Jack Conway entered the race for U.S. Senate. [CQ Politics]

Are you ready for this? Kim Geveden and the Mongiardo Campaign are working to demonize Louisvillians. Al Cross has details on the pro-gun (so now liberals can’t own guns? interesting news to me), pro-homophobia campaign Geveden has planned. His words, not ours. So it’s on. The homophobes vs. everyone else. [Al Cross]

Today at 10:00 A.M. Congressman John Yarmuth will present $150,000 to Volunteers of America for its Incarcerated Veterans Transitional Program. IVTP pairs formerly incarcerated veterans, who have served their time, with other veterans to help ease their transition back into society. Since 2004, the program has cut recidivism by 90% among participants, saving Kentucky taxpayers $1.6 million each year. [Press Release]

Down With Tyranny is spot-on with its Kentucky Senate analysis. [DWT]

I mean this in all seriousness, your pro-Conway cheerleading is kind of turning the blog into a farce. You’ve broke some great stories in the past and the blog is certainly becoming a “must read” for state politico news, but give it a rest with the Conway stuff. Is every post until next May going to focus on how evil Mongiardo is and how perfect Conway is? Go find some news to write about.

    Mornin’ Jake -
If you persist in making this a Lou-Ing-Ton vs. rest of the state campaign, Conway’ll win the primary but whoever the Republican’ts puts up will thrash us. I want Conway to win in November, not just in May. I want Conway to win in the whole state, not just Lou-Ing-Ton. You, Yellow Dog, etc. gotta get a 120 county strategy.
Voters of the 1st, 2nd, 4th & 5th vote god, guns & glory; they don’t share OUR social issues. Whitfield, Rodgers, Lewis & Davis don’t belong in the House, but as long as they vote their districts and constituencies they will be returned – why is it that we can’t get them out of office. I’ll tell you why – but you’ll blow me off as just another clod-buster/coal-miner from western Ky – they don’t ride in from Louisville in their shiny new Mercedes/BMW/Porsche/Audi/Jag and say, “I’m from the city, and I’m hear to help. Just change your ways to what we tell you to do and all will be fine.”
Jake, truly the issue isn’t about gender or sexuality, it’s about choice. Let everyone choose, don’t – please don’t act like the Bu$h administration.
Now … go ahead and blow me off like you do all the others from out-state venues. And after you’re done, send us the name of the last Democrat elected to a state-wide office who grew up; attented schools and worked before entering into politics in the golden triangle. Every statewide office holder I can recall since Ruby Laffoon was from “out there – somewhere – get a map, see if we can find it”.

If you hadn’t noticed, the past two weeks have been a peak time for Senate campaign announcements. When there’s news, I’m going to write about it. Just like I’ve done over the past two years.

There will be quiet periods and noisy periods through November 2010.

But if you don’t like it? Don’t read it. No one is forcing your hand.

Bimbo: What? It’s the Mongiardo campaign who insists this is Louisville vs. The Rest of the State. They’re on record– publicly– saying so.

Do you have the ability to discern context clues? No one says this is about “gender or sexuality” – it’s about discrimination and legislating said discrimination. And that’s what I’ve focused on. Along with campaign missteps.

The Dem primary won’t come down to geographics. It will come down to money.

  • 7 Mike // Apr 13, 2009 at 9:52 am

Kentucky has the best government money can buy!! look at Mitch’s $22 million dollars war chest from out of state, look at Whitfield $1.5 million the same. when will Ky voters wake up and see how our congress critters vote,it’s not for you

    Jake,

Louisvillians have demonized themselves across the state with their attitude of social, finacial, intellectual and emtional superiority — and you are walking & talking proof right here, right now.

I’m on Conway’s corner, now be a dude inatead of a dud and take a long look and a longer listen to people outside your golden circle of priviledge … for once. There’s a reason that Whitfield et al keep getting re-elected.

I still await the name from the above request. Use your superior research skills and superior research sources. After all the best I can do is be a coal-mining & clod-breaking western Kentuckian – without a Kentucky education. And without a Louisville address.

Shouldn’t you Paultards be focusing on… um… Republicans?

  • 11 Bimbeau // Apr 13, 2009 at 7:33 pm

Isn’t it just a-Paul-ing that they want to use our primary.

It’s bad enough that DINO’s and Demicrats get in -

  • 12 jake // Apr 13, 2009 at 7:35 pm

I think Rand Paul is a solid guy.

But it’s retarded and typical of the Paultards to have zero idea what they’re doing. Why waste your time and efforts on the wrong party during a primary?

FInally, something I can agree with DimBulb on.
