More of the Same at KDP?

From the Department of We Told You So…

Charlie Moore is the new chair of the Kentucky Democratic Party, like we said.

And Jeremy Horton resigned. Do you hear the hoots and hollers of being overjoyed? 20+ people have called us cheering over that. An era of bullshit, hatred, wasted money and all-around laziness is OVER!

KDP has allegedly raised $300,000 since November and has $58,000 (?) in the bank, which they say is seed money that will be pushed out to county parties. Those former staffers who are owed money? Yeah, they still haven’t been paid.

Surprisingly (or perhaps not), no female vice chair of the KDP has been named. For a Party that allegedly values women and equality, you’d think naming the female vice chair would be top priority. When Jerry Lundergan didn’t immediately name a vice chair, Mark Nickolas sent out press releases asking for his resignation. And now those same forces who went wild over Lundergan’s slowness to act are sweeping their own hypocrisy under the rug.

When we spoke to two members of the Governor’s staff yesterday they refused to name the vice chair. They told us we’d find out today. So what happened? Did their pick back out like previous picks for party chair have done? Or was it still up in the air at that point?

Interesting times are ahead. We have high hopes that Charlie Moore won’t slip into the same tired, nasty ways of Jennifer Moore. We hope that he won’t continue drawing lines of division by shutting hundreds of Democrats out of Party Headquarters. And we hope he can do Kentuckians right.

But we’re not holding our breath. We remember what happened the last two times.

Let’s hope a new era of grassroots activism will descend on the KDP and on all local Dem party organizations as well.

(snark comments aplenty running through my head — but I shall restrain myself for the moment)

That’s my fervent wish. Reality may take a different tack. We’ll see.
