TGIF! Tropical Weather Weekend Has Arrived!

February 6th, 2009 · 13 Comments

We’re getting a late start this morning because we got lost in a box of documents. Speaking of documents, wouldn’t it be nice if the University of Louisville would respond to open records requests like it is required to do by law? Two weeks and two requests later, no response. Imagine that.

Francene’s Job Jam: The radio hostess will be doing her Radio Want Ads at 10 this morning, so if you’re a job seeker, listen in. And she’s planning a FREE seminar at Bellarmine Feb. 21 from 8:30 to 11, featuring three speakers and designed to help you with your self-esteem during unemployment, among other things. Rick will have more on it later. [The 'Ville Voice]

No, Daniel Mongiardo isn’t a “gay basher” – he’s a homophobe. Rather than just make shit up, people, why not learn the facts? Ask members of the State House and Senate about Mongiardo’s “pledges” he tried to force on people. Look back at his post-2004 campaign time when the Marriage Amendment came to be. Further, just because you say Mongiardo isn’t a homophobe doesn’t make it so. Because he says he’s not– after his five years of actions– doesn’t make it so. We haven’t distorted a damn thing. And thousands of people are on the same page. [BlueGrassHorsecrap]

Maybe the new University of Louisville Ombudsman could start by getting Jim Ramsey to keep his promises to aggrieved faculty? [C-J]

Heather French Henry will be on KET talking about her line of pageant wear. And she’s still calling herself a foundation director despite not really running a foundation and never having spent said foundation’s money on veterans or on anything but herself. And author? Wasn’t she sued by her publishing company for screwing them out of $450,000? Yeah. Funny how the Henry family keeps letting the facts slip from their official bios. And funny how they keep using that Bardstown Road building for campaigns and for-profit events all while illegally blending with non-profits. Oh, and Heather? Tell another person we both know to silence me and I’ll start publishing documents one by one and won’t wait on a grand jury to convene.  It was bad enough that you tried to get Stephanie Horne to shut me up on the night of the May primary.  [KET]

Do you support the restoration of voting rights for felons who have served their time? Call your legislators today. [Kentuckians for the Commonwealth]

Yes, Philadelphia, Republicans are trying to bench Jim Bunning once and for all. [Philly]

Wouldn’t you know it? Mitch McConnell is leading Republicans to oppose pay limits on bailed-out bankers. What was that from Mr. Turkey Neck chickenhawk about giving a flip about the common man in Kentucky? Riiiiight. [Huffington Post]

It’s funny when Republicans are racist, right? Right? Yeah, terribly funny. Emailed racism got an ignorant Florida committeewoman fired. Here’s what Carol Carter’s email said: “I’m confused… How can 2,000,000 blacks get into Washington, DC in 1 day in sub zero temps when 200,000 couldn’t get out of New Orleans in 85 degree temps with four days notice?” [Wonkette]

What was that about George W. Bush never being without a jacket in the oval office? Oh, right, the McConnell-led GOP is hypocritical in its complaint that Barack Obama should never be without a jacket and tie in the office. Check the photo and the slide show at the bottom of the page. [More HuffPo]

Why is a judge– who is supposed to be non-partisan and remain that way– at a winter board meeting of the Democratic Woman’s Club? [Just Wondering]

I have no problem in felons having their voting rights reinstated.
I think in order to do so, the victims of their crimes should be given the final say in the matter…and maybe the person wishing to have their rights reinstated should have to pass the same citizenship test that naturalized citizens do.

HA! probably because she still has no comprehension of what being a judge means and how to conduct herself. Katie King will run for some sort of office eventually… as much of a joke as that will be. Her dad is just grooming her for it. She doesn’t want to be a judge, this is just a stepping stone for her dad to try and push her into a political career. Loved seeing her out at the bar last weekend with the guy she threw under the bus in the CJ article for the pot bust at her house a few years back. Please drug test this girl.

“Accountable to Whom and for Whom?”

One wonders if JR & SW will treat the interim ombudsman the way they handled the grievance officer who quit amid all the complaints, both signed and “anonymous,” about Felner’s savagery. Despite this nicety of a position, will they keep on ignoring us? After all, SW makes the appointment. Will anyone hired first be expected to protect the foxes who guard the chicken coop? It will take a truly independent, courageous ombudsman to “speak truth to power.” (I do not know the person hired as an interim and cast no doubt upon him.) Does anyone, including our erstwhile Board, have that kind of guts, integrity, and commitment? Or will we all become victims in the end?

I no longer believe Katie’s dad is grooming her. It’s all her, all on her shoulders.

I think Jim backed away toward the end of her campaign.

    “Have Gun, Will Travel”

CEHDer #5: “What’s all this crap about SW and JR covering their bee-hinds again?”

CEHDer #6: “Oh, you must mean the new interim ombudsman idea.”

CEHDer #5: “Yep, it’s their new experiment, their dog-and-pony show of concern for faculty and staff.”

CEHDer #6: “Don’t be so damn cynical. The end result will be to prove that nothing much works at the UofL.”

CEHDer #5: “Yeah, that’s just common sense, given our past experiences.”

CEHDer #6: “We academicians let evidence and reason be our guides most of the time–even Sam does sometimes.”

    “Administrative/Faculty Agreement”

CEHDer #8: “Do you see where RIP is asking for a comprehensive Felner inquiry by an independent investigator?”

CEHDer #9: “We could always bring back that mediating firm called in to do some sweeping up after the Felner no-confidence vote.”

CEHDer #8: “Whatever happened to their report? You think the administration has any patience left for investigations? Look how many are going on now on campus.”

CEHDer #9: “Just amusement. True scholars never stop investigating. We should ask questions upon questions. We cease doing that, we die.”

CEHDer #8: “JR & SW must be in purgatory. They always say it would be inappropriate to comment on any ongoing investigation by the chain of command.”

CEHDer #9: “So, they ultimately agree with us: Our independent searches never really end.”

OK, the bigger question is, “What’s a MALE doing at a Democratic Women board meeting?”

    “Warming Up the GOP Bullpen”

“The Fix” (Washington Post political blog) has just named Bunning the most vulnerable US Senator in the nation. Reports are that The Bunion is hiring plastic surgeons to remove sullen facial lines, an acting coach to work on his grumpy git, and a therapist to soothe his irritable mannerisms. Nothing can be done about his lack of intellect and inability to be even a toy “action figure.”
P.S. Mongiardo and Conway must be licking their chops.

    Novena…

Funny, isn’t it, that a Daily Kos poll shows Bunning ahead against all comers?

That’s a Daily Kos poll, not some Republican pollster’s work product that you and all the other D’s would be screaming “tainted” over.

“Watch for the Hanging Curve Ball”

Of course, Bunning would be leading in the polls NOW. But wait until the political season hits the 7th inning stretch. The Bunster is waddling about because of his name recogntion (from his baseball fame days mostly). When he gets a real opponent (hopefully Conway, not Mongiardo), the Dems will be hitting multiple grand slams off the tamed Tiger.

    “No Transparency in Belknap Forests”

Jake, let’s not be too naive about the UofL. Are you really surprised about its “no sunshine” policy? Open records requests are made to insure that the public can observe its institutions (those they pay for) and hold them accountable. When an institution refuses such requests, it raises glaring red flags about itself and black marks against its name. Go, red and black Cards.

The Records Officer got in touch with me and I think some things may be resolved.

That said, the Cotton-Allen Audit probably won’t ever be released by Jim and Shirley. Sources within the University tell me that they were forced to officially comment on the document without ever having physically laid eyes on it. And sources within Shirley’s office tell me the document is, indeed, complete… despite the official line that it’s still in the works.

    “UofL Intelligence vs. US Intelligence”

Jake, how in the world can they comment intelligently and honorably on a document they’ve never read? Sounds like 95% of the US Senate that gave Bush a blank check to war on Iraq without bothering to read the intelligence report (all of 72 pages). Jeez, God help us.
